Please explain when watching some programs on "digital" tv the picture does not fill the screen why? (some football matches)

Wide screen or smart mode will not.

no matter what screen mode you try the screen is not full size!

It is not your imagination, we suffer with the same problem. The only thing we can come up with is that they are no broadcasting for us with the big tele's. Don't know what to do about it of who to approach. Any ideas and suggestions gratefully received!!!

That's because its broadcast in SD (standard def, not HD) which will display the bars on the left and right (for a 4:3 ratio tv). In order to fill the screen, you need to change the ratio on your tv or hd receiver.

If your box supports it use the zoom in function. This will trim the edges and should get rid of the annoying letterbox. Your TV can do it too. Set it to 4:3 or centre positioning.

Probably becuse the country holding the match doesent broadcast in widscreen they still use the old system

Could be something to do with where the broadcast is coming from...like maybe the country doesn't have widescreen facilities or something.

may be shown in what is called letter box to show a wider picture
