no
BUT
it is part of the permanent record, and so if you try to do other things in the Military, such as a top level security clearance, that is taken into consideration.
My husband had to show medical proof of no mental problems, including depression during his security clearance check.

Of course you won't get kicked out! The military, specially for those new to the armed forces, can often be very depressing. There are ALL SORTS of resources to help you.
I would say for someone depressed the first step would be to go talk to their unit Chaplain. Even if the person isn't religious Chaplains are there to help you cope with your time in the military. My Chaplain always has some free candy and coffee in his office and you can talk to him about anything at any time.
There are extreme cases when somebody might be separated from the service for failure to adapt.
Don't be afraid to seek help if you need it. Rely on your friends and chain of command to get you the help you need for your individual situation.
Best Regards,

If you feel you are depressed, you should seek help. Don't let the fear of getting kicked out or the thoughts of what others might think of you stop you. Just go talk to someone about it and let it go from there. Wouldn't you want to be happy with yourself and not be depressed?
And if it is you that is in fact in the service... THANK YOU for serving our country.

Not at all. Actually if you are the one thats depressed or a friend of yours should seek help inmediately. go trohu the chain of command, let your superior know, let your chaplain know or go to the clinic and they will help you out. That cannot be used against a soldier, specially if just got back from a combat zone. Please seek help ASAP

They won't kick you out, at least not immediately, but if you seek treatment within the military your superiors will have access to your files. I would suggest you go off base even if you have to pay for you treatment out of pocket. Down the road what your superiors find in your file may effect promotions.

If you can't afford to be chaptered out, or care about your career, I would recommend to seek help from a private psychologist. I would not trust that any communication with an Army psychologist is considered private.

That used to be the unwritten rule. And it may still be to some extent.
But the official stance is that they want you to get help and will do all they can for you.
I urge you to talk to a military chaplin. They can provide lots of confidential info

Don't know the millitary BUT I would assume its a case by case basis. Are you depressed because you are stuck in Bosnia and you sister and her whole family just got killed, a bit of soldier blues, or are you freaking out and being haunted by the dead bodies you see everyday.
Depends.
