I don't think it's something that you ever really stop thinking about totally. I have been smoke free for about 6 years and there are still times when I am having a bad day or just walk by someone smoking, that I think I could really use a smoke. But, it passes. I think it's one of those things that you are going to always have those thoughts in the back of your head because it's so easy to start back up. I think the mental battle is far worse than any physical craving I might have had. Personally, there are better things that I can spend my money & breath on. Good luck!

I quit just over 5 years ago. I think about wanting to smoke just about everyday but as much as I miss it I am glad I do not smoke anymore. I know if I even have 1 that I would be a smoker again.

I quit nine months ago and yes I still get cravings, but I find it is only in certain situations such as sitting around talking to friends. I get over it real quick though, and then dont even think about it again. Good on you for quitting, its the best thing I ever did.

It's been 18 yrs for me and yes you do get the carving's you says oh that would be nice but look how many years you done without and keep on going it gets easier the longer you are not smoking just remember this that you use to smell like the people who smoke around you and ask yourself if you want to smell like that again. think about getting in an elevator with someone who just finished a cigarette and the smell makes me sick do you want to be that person making someone else feel sick like that you've done good keep going and you will feel better.

Maybe 1-2 per month i will get a craving, smoked for 13 years.

If I chew gum it goes away in about 2 minutes.

but cravings are no where near like when you first quit.

i think its the smell of smoking that makes me crave it.

Yep. It's the smell. I smell one and I want one.

I actually gave in and had one a while back......made me sick. I think the idea I had in my head about how good it would be to just have one was built up to fictional proportions. It smells so good, and remember what it was like to have one back when I smoked. But now it just doesn't live up to my expectations.

Yes, but it passes quickly if you don't dwell on it. If you are around it too often, you might give in once in a while, but as long you don't have more than one it shouldn't be an issue.
