Sea salt is made by evaporating seawater. It has a different taste then table salt which is mostly sodium chloride and mostly made from rock salt, a mineral that is mined. table salt contains more iodides and different molecular agents. Sea salt is more expensive then table salt because as a salt it is more beneficial then table salt and offers a better taste.
Sea salt, when used in cooking often offers changes in flavor due to a rate of dissolution which is different.

Sea salt is made be evaporating the liquid out of sea water whereas table salt comes from salt mines. Sea salt contains several trace minerals that regular table salt does not.

Sea salt, a salt obtained by evaporating seawater, is used in cooking and in such products as cosmetics. Some claim its mineral content gives it a different taste from table salt, which is mostly sodium chloride and made from either sea or rock salt (halite), a mineral that is mined. Table salt may contain anticaking agents and additives such as the dietary supplement iodides. Areas that produce specialized sea salt include the Cayman Islands, France, Ireland, Sicily and Apulia in Italy, and Maine and Cape Cod in the United States. Generally more expensive than table salt, it is commonly used in premium potato chips.

Sea salt is the same pH as your body chemistry. Most table salt is just for flavor and if it is iodized it has added iodine which you need in your diet, but if you are talking about piercing aftercare-which I think you are. Sea salt is better b/c it does not dry your skin out like table salt.

Who says it's better for you? There isn't any iodine in sea salt, so if you're allergic to that, you might want to switch. Much of our table salt is actually made from sea salt. The rest comes from large deposits of salt in mines.

It's the most natural form of salt, therefore better in terms of having less done to it before it reaches your plate. Also, table salt tends to have nasty anti-caking additives in it, which are bad for you, and impair the flavour.
