I am wondering why I never hear any atheists attacking Islam, or Buddhism, or whatever else but everyone seems to have this hatred for Christianity? My theory is that you know that the God of the bible is the one true God in your hearts, but you choose to rebel against Him.
If my theory is incorrect, what is your reason?

Christianity is truly not a "religion" but rather a "relationship" with God, but don't beat me up for stupid clerical errors.

I wonder if part of why people don't like us, is because we speak the truth, but we do not speak the truth IN LOVE.
The problem is that people confuse the fact that some Christians are idiots with the fact that God is totally awesome!!

I think you are right, people rebel because they think if you believe in the one true God you can't have "fun" but they are so mislead. you can have fun without all the immoralities of this world. thanks for bringing up this topic i'm really interested in to see what others think. God Bless

There could be a number of reasons you never hear atheists attacking those other religions. One might be that you are so focused on your NARROW WORLD VIEW that even if you were in a country full of conservative Christians openly putting down every other faith but their own, especially Islam and New Age religions (sound familiar?), you would only hear the small minority of atheists and other faiths that even bother putting Christianity down.

Another reason could be because you have what is known as a PERSECUTION COMPLEX. This is a big problem with many Christians; they feel that since their saviour and his disciples were persecuted and since Jesus spoke of how those who believed in his teachings would be persecuted, that they themselves are persecuted. Well, if Christians are the persecuted ones, I guess all those complaints from the Jews are unfounded; and I hope no Muslims complained during the Crusades as entire villages filled with Muslim women and children were burned to the ground in the name of Jesus. I hope the Native Americans accepted Jesus Christ as their personal lord and savior before they were eradicated by the Christian Europeans.

I think a big part of why there is such widespread hatred for Christians is their insistency that their way is the only way, which might be fine (Jews and other religions certainly make similar claims), except that the level of hypocrisy involved is overwhelmingly nauseating. Most Christians haven't even read the Bible, and if they have read it, they obviously haven't contemplated the words of Christ who said things like, "Love your enemies" and "Love your neighbor as yourself", or the one they never seem to remember, "Be careful not to make a show of your religion before men."

So yeah, I think your theory is incorrect. There may indeed be a one true God, but He's not the one prescribed by the modern Pharisees who call themselves Christians.

First off, I have never heard anyone attacking Buddhism, but I have also never heard of Buddhism attacking anyone. Some people have "hatred" for Christianity, because this is the predominant religion in their place of residence, so it is closer to home. It's easier to start hating something that is always in your face rather than something that is thousands of miles away (like Islam) and is not affecting you directly. I'm sure, atheists in Islamic countries hate Islam just as much as our home-grown atheists might hate Christianity.

Simple logical exercise reveals that the "god of the bible" is no more or less "true" than any god that had ever been invented on this planet for as long as human culture flourished. This includes the gods of Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Shinto, Zoroastrism, as well a countless number of existing and dead religions, starting with the Neolithic humans, or possibly earlier. Everyone picks a god that is dear to their own heart - but it doesn't make it more or less "true" for anyone else. According to your own theory, by subscribing to the god of the bible you yourself "rebel" against Isis, Osiris, Ishtar, Allah, Krishna, you name it. It doesn't make sense, does it. What counts the most is what you feel is "true" in your heart. Projecting your own feelings on everyone else is not a very productive way to think about the world.

Your logic is rather weak. You say because all those man-made inventions have a capability to be misused and so does religion ergo we cannot remove technology so we cannot remove religion. Removal of technology and science would have us back in the middle ages where religion typically flourished so I'm sure you would indeed like to remove them. They have resulted in longer and happier lives as well as an infinite and progressively elaborate quest for knowledge.First , families are a personal choice as are drugs and sex. These do not go around preaching the end of the world and forcing their ideologies upon others as religion does. Science is not a personal choice. You may not believe, subscribe to its ideology but you inevitably must use it. You have used it any time you have gotten sick or even thought about a process in the natural world by examining evidence. Technology is an absolute must and is helping elongate human lives and the Earth's for that matter. Peace is usually good but sometimes we have to wage war on those that try to harm us. Religion is the only one that has no positive effects that cannot be replaced by another source. It only results in myths and dogmatism and this causes people to be stuck in a stupor they call reality while science marches on to reveal the ultimate truth.

I think you are correct, but also Christianity is worldwide. So it is any easier target than some other religions, being that there are so many variations of Christianity. Some people just need something to disagree with. So they go thru the Bible and look for anything, no matter how minor that thing is and take it and twist it around and misconstrue the context so they have something they feel is worth talking about. Some people are just natural skeptics and would find doubt no matter what the topic you discuss. Those people are entitled to feel or believe whatever they want, everybody 's a critic, and it is a FREE country. But the truth shall set you free. All the best.

Probably because in here Christianity is the majority. Their questions and answers are derived from what they see of the Christians here. Though, I'm not an Atheist, I'm Wiccan, I see them attacking many different religions, including my own, though not on the level I see them going after Christianity. If this site was majority Muslim, you would see a lot more attacking the Islam faith.

If they honestly believed in your God, why would they chose to say they don't? I think sayings like that "you really do believe, you just chose to rebel" is merely your opinion. You don't know anothers heart no more than another person knows yours. And I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it if, let's say, a Wiccan such as myself started saying things like "You really do believe in the Goddess, deep in your heart, you just chose to rebel against Her". Wouldn't you be annoyed that someone is actually arrogant enough to say they know what you think or beleive deep down?

People will rebel against the truth because they want to rebel against the idea of "rules" set by the Bible." If you don't want to be told what to do, shhot down Christianity". A christian does not suffer in any way by the path set for us by the Lord. I have no time for people (atheists) that do not even acknowledge that they are here because of more thatn merely their little selves! Non believers will always have a mouthful to say about something they cannot prove wrong!

Whoever said Christianity is not a religion must be an atheist, or clearly ignorant. Christianity is a religion in itself; but there are many DENOMINATIONS of Christianity - which is why you can be Christian but not claim any church as your own (non-demominational).
I see so often people confusing Religion with denomination.
With that being said....

That question is one that has been on the minds and hearts of Christians since the 60's.

You probably only wanted Atheists to answer, but I think because maybe Christianity threatens the right Atheists feel they have to making immoral decisions (abortion, gay rights seem to be the larger issues) and the Christians have the loudest voice in fighting to keep our country from abandoning all sense of morality. They voted to take prayer & biblical teachings out of the schools - look at all the violence that has broken out just in the last month alone. I'm not going to start an abortion debate here, but making abortion legal for any and every reason creates irresponsibility as women will just run to the clinic everytime the strip turns pink. What lesson have they learned about their promiscuity?

Every topic Atheists fight with Christians about only creates more chaos in our society. This is becoming a time when there are no consequences for ANYthing. Got Pregnant from sleeping around? just "terminate" (kill) it. Too addicted to drugs to take care of your family or get a job? Sign up for welfare for the rest of your life, and watch your children follow in your footsteps.

um ... where have you been? Islam gets reamed here on a regular basis and not just by atheists. Christians get in on the fun of damning Islam too. and Christians like to "attack" pagans as well. so please lay off the poor pitiful persecuted Christian routine. it's total bullfeces.

and the reason you don't see Buddhists or Hindus getting "attacked" here is because one seldom sees a Buddhist or a Hindu, much less any that seek converts by preaching and hell mongering. Christians (like Muslims) can be very rude and aggressive when expressing their faith, damning the unbeliever and getting up on their moral high horse saying "I'm goin to heaven and you're gonna roast in hell. so there! neener neener".

PS. what's sad is the Christians reading the reasons for their "persecution" will refuse any understanding they may gain. they'll continue to believe they they're being "attacked" and "persecuted" because ONLY they have the truth and everyone else is jealous of them. they invoke hostility because they believe the hostility they invoke confirms they're "special" to their god. the more resistance they get the more "special" they feel and the more arrogant their spiritual egos become.

Oh boy! Christianity IS a religion, not "a relationship with 'God"." You need a serious reality check.

I've seen atheists criticize Islam as they criticize Christianity, because both religions are politically inclined, i.e. their leaders want to govern by their narrow-minded religious principles.

If Buddhism pops up as a threat against personal freedoms (which by its nature it cannot) there would be the same kind of criticism.

I am a Reincarnationist (not a Buddhist) and I've seen atheists and agnostics agree with fundamentalists against reincarnation many times — it doesn't bother me.

You've never seen me go off on a tear on Islam then.

Most of the other religions are cool in my book because *ONLY* Islam and Christianity have compunctions to prosetylize to others. Most other faiths are quite apathetic about converts -- "Yeah, you wanna be one of us? Okay." You never hear about Buddhists going door-to-door, do you? How about native americans preaching about the Great Spirit? Seen any satanists condemning people to heaven or hell?

So why do Christians and Muslims do it? "Because we are the one true correct religion!" Religion is man made, no man made system will ever properly define G-d because G-d is beyond definition. If a human has ever had any part in building the statue, writing a word, or otherwise creating any artifact at all of their religion or faith, it is not of G-d but at best a flawed copy because the perfection of a G-d could never be expressed in any form.

So let's frame this differently -- I hate being preached at by people who are no better than me, no more hopeful than me, no more justified than me, no more ANYTHING than me, and usually who have far less understanding of science, mathematics, logic, and their own d@mn holy book because I've read it and they haven't.

I don't hate your God. He simply doesn't exist. I cannot hate what doesn't exist.

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ." -- Ghandi
