mental health nursing??

Question

is anyone on here a mental health nurse?? i am going to uni soon to become one(hopefully) i would just like to hear from people who already work in this field and would be interested to know how you like it. is it a good proffession to be in??? thanks.xx

I was a qualified psychiatric nurse and I loved my job, not enough people are genuinelly intrested in this type of nursing, good luck with your course.I had to give up nursing altogether due to an illness called systemic lupus, and this effects my joints and immunity.

i have been a mental health nurse both in hospital and in the community for 30 years it is a very rewarding and challenging profession its nice when u have a job that pays and u try to make a difference in the world by helping other people its a great profession good luck and go for it

I volunteered in mental health before doing all sorts of jobs phew! For some of the clients the work is worth it, and to be honest with you, the job is not worth it for the other ones hehe! It really was an exciting job, I still do some work for them today but not as much.

I have worked in mental health since 1985 (Social Care) and my partner since 1990 as a RMN. We wouldn't know how to do a proper job any more been too long at it.

Pay is better as you get higher (obviously). Both feel its a good profession to be in. Can be **** at times, but rewarding too.

I wish you luck with your chosen profession, but a word of warning. Cut out the jokes about anorexics. Mental health is a serious issue, not one to be laughed about.

i am not but i would just like to say thank you i dont think enough people get into nursing esp. mental health i think that this would be a very meaningful job all the best.
