so me and this guy danced around the subject of going out. we both have liked each other. i think he still does like me. we hang out together, ive met his friends. but its never very consistent. it could go a week or so without seeing him again, but he always will call and complain that he hasnt heard from me in awhile. i would have just thought he wasnt interested anymore. so im not sure what we're doing. i want to ask what he wants out of this, are we dating, his feelings toward me. how do i do that without freaking him out?

You know the first kiss is actually very overrated as the first major tent pole of a relationship. A romantic relationship moves from just flirting with holding hands. This is the first time you will intimately touch and it signals that you are doing more than just playing around but that you actually want to move forward.
Try and do it causally, preferable while you are walking somewhere, maybe when he says something funny laugh and brush his shoulder and as your hand goes down his arm when it gets to his hand kind of hand flirt so you are not actually grabbing his hand but teasing his hand, if he tries to hold your hand, you have your new boy friend.
