I got my 7 week old pit bull puppy last thrusday 'n his "poop" looked normal. The breeder told me he was feeding him IAMS Large Breed puppy dryfood. The type of food I had in my house was Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy, and that's the type of dry food that he started eating that same night I brought him home with me. The next day I noticed that he had diarrhea, it's been about 4 days, and he contiunes having some type of diarrhea. By the way, he seems to love Royal Canin dry food, but that's the only side effect that he has. Also, after he "poops" he tried to wipe himself by sliding his behind on the floor; i'm not really sure if it's the indegestion or something else...

Try the food he was on if this doesnt help go to the vet. Try it for about a week or so. Then if it still doesnt work go to the vet just to be safe. P.S. Dog Tip: Never give a dog chocolate it can KILL them.

suddenly changing a dog's food can cause problems with their stomach. If it doesn't go away after a week, I would change them back to whatever they had before. Every food is different, and there may be something in the one that you have that doesn't agree with him. you're supposed to gradually switch them over ... doing 80/20, 60/40, 50/50, 40/60, 20/80 - each for a few days - vet recommended minimum of 3 days at each level. Also - don't suddenly switch him back or to something else - this'll only make things worse.

Iams is Eukanuba's parent company, so I will answer from the Eukanuba standpoint. We are trained that in order to change your dog food over to Eukanuba, the first day you feed your dog 3/4 old food, 1/4 new food. Day two, 1/2 and 1/2...Day 3 1/4 old food, 3/4 Eukanuba and by the fourth day your dog is on just new food. Any time you switch your dog's food suddenly it will upset their digestive system. A puppy's digestion is especially sensitive since they are just developing, so I would say the reason your puppy is having problems is due to the sudden switch. Put him back on the old food...or expect it to take a few days for your pup's body to adjust...

changing a dogs food to fast cant really upset their tummies, you need to take some of the food he was being fed and your food and start with 75% the old food and 25% your new food, then gradually make is 50/50 and so on. this way your puppy can get used to the new food without hurting his stomach, plus 7 weeks is a little early, the normal age to get a pup is 8 weeks, they shouldnt seperated from the mom until 8 weeks

I guess the breeder did not tell you to mix the old dog food with the new one for about a week.
Sigh, they were supposed to tell you !!! It was so irresponsible of them not to insure that you know this.
That reminds me of one friend who adopted a mature dog from the spca. The volunteer told him this one loves can dog food. Guess what happened. He took it home, gave it a whole can for a "welcome to your new home" treat. Ergo, like yours, the doggy had monumental diarrhea.
So, the lesson of the day is: if you change the pets diet - expect a poop change and when feeding canned dog food, again mix with his regular dry food first.
As for scooting on the floor, its one of 2 things- worms and dried poop. Did the breeder also forget to tell you that they should have dome the deworming and the shots at 2 weeks and 8 weeks old?

You should switch back to Iams. Your dog will eventually get used to the new food but it is a lower quality food and not as good for your dog. I have 2 pits and I feed them homemade food because manufactured dog food is full of some really nasty stuff. Roadkill, dead zoo animals, dead dogs and cats from shelters...
the cheaper the food the worse the ingrediants.

Switching a dog's diet all of a sudden usually results in diarrhea. If you want to change food, you need to wean it off of it slowly.

it's giving him diarrhea, and he may have a case of worms, they can easily be treated with worm meds from walmart or the vet, the reason I said worms is because my dog had worms and it makes their butt itch when they use the bathroom.

I have heard...HEARD...the key word here...but him scooting on his rear end is not a good thing and I think a lot of people think that it is so cute that they are wiping their behinds...but check with the vet...don't think it is good.
