Probably you could check the etymology of those two words of the "English" language.
They might even originate from two different languages which have came into English.
Also, for those who have a lot of time to waste, try finding out how many other words in the English or American languages, when spelt backwards, spells another word in that language.

in ancient history, there were some cultures that used to worship dogs as a god..... There are musical groups that have either written songs or even named their bands after that theory (Temple of the Dog) ...........
