I am 16 years old. I have 3 younger siblings, age 12, 11, and 9. My mom won't let me see PG-13 movies because they are too young for my siblings! I won't watch the movies in front of them, or anything. This is so unfair. People my age are trying for Rated R, and I'm stuck with PG.

What is a good argument I can present to get my parents on my side? This is too unfair!

Does your mom make you go to all of the movies your younger siblings attend? Does she go with all of you to the movies or are you the one that has to babysit the kids? If mom goes with you, ask if you can see a different movie that is playing the same time as the PG-13 movie.

Will mom let you go with a friend and their parent to a PG-13 or R movie?

I think that each individual child requires a different approach on this topic. If you play the games before they do, and you know what's in the games, I'd cut you more slack than someone who arbitrarily lets their 5 year-old play or watch whatever games/movies they want with no input from the parent. That said, there is something to be said for doing a little bit of censorship early in life. Children don't have the ability to properly filter right and wrong when they're at an age where they're still developing their foundation. Many R rated movies and games are rated that way because they have some really a-moral behavior in them. Adults who play these games or watch R rated movies, do so with a foundational knowledge of what's good behavior and what isn't. When a character rapes and kills someone, or exhibits other such behaviors, the adult knows just how wrong this is. A child will either be emotionally traumatized or will start to view these types of behaviors as less serious than they really are.
