Ok, so the thing is, I am a 16 year-old-girl, and I keep track of my life in a personal journal. Over heard my mom talking to her friend on the phone yesterday. This is what I heard my mom say... "and I was reading Misty's journal like I ususally do when she's at school... turns out that she already had her first kiss... she's not even that pretty, it upsets me that a guy would press his lips against hers..." I only heard one end. I guess my mom didn't realize I was awake in my bed when she was putting my laundry away.
This has hurt me beyond words. First of all, I don't hide much from my mom, but of course I didn't tell her the second a guy kissed me... also, she called my "not very pretty".
My mom doesn't know that I heard her. What should I do?

this is a tough situation. here is my advice although it may not be the best.
1. get a second journal. keep two, she obviously knows where you keep one of them, just write low tone things in there for her, keep another, a personal one with you to vent out and keep it with you, or in a better hiding spot. if you ask her abou tit she will deny it, its a mother thing. im a guy and had the same kinda thing years ago. but please understand that she is probably just wanting to knwo if you are hiding anythign from her. about the not pretty comment... um im not real sure what to say to make you feel better abou tthis, the only thing i can think of is maybe the history of your mom, maybe she was like the prom queen girl in school and your not exactly like her. or something refering to her personal past. i am sorry you heard a thing liek that and no mother shoudl say that. hope it all works out for ya!

Buy a second journal and hide it well. Then in the journal your mom sneaks around to read behind your back, write your mom a letter and tell her what you heard and how you feel about it including how you feel about her invading your privacy. Trust and respect are two-way streets.
