I need something that does not require a personal trainer. I can not afford it. Is Taebo good ? Should I just eat protein and vegetables? I am 5'10 and 280 lbs.

Here is what you need to do, if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off. Eat 6 small meals a day about every 4 hours. Here what that will do for you, your metabolism will increase (i.e. Loose weight) and you will have more engry. If you go on a diet and eat less, your metabolism will slow down and store to fat. That is why diets dont work. Only the size of your fist, carbs (examples:baked potato, pasta, oatmeal, beans, corn, melon, apples, fat free yogurt, whole wheat breads)in one and protien (examples:chicken breast, swordfish, shrimp, turkey breast) in the other. You can also eat vegetables and salads with any meal, they dont have none or little fat). 30min cardo exercise every day. Any of these(examples: walking, jogging, swimming, running, biking, ect), Monday cardo, tues upper body (arms: curls, tricep extensions, pull ups, front press)(abdominals: leg pull crunch, leg raises), (chest: bench press, butterfly, pullover)(shoulders: front press, arm pullover, cross county skier machine)(back:seated row, lat pull downs, back extension)(YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IN ONE DAY, mix it up) wed cardo, thurs lower body (legs: leg pull, leg press, squats, lounges) fri cardo, sat upper. Sunday eat anything you want and dont exercising, you do this on sunday so your body doesnt go into starvation mode. YOU NEED TO TAKE SUNDAY OFF. If you stilck with this you will have a great body. also drink aleast 8oz of water daily! Stay away from Mcdonals, Wendys, ect because there is nothing good for you on the menu's even the salads are bad (beaon bits, cheeze, dressing, ect) Good Luck :)

Ok, now I don't claim to be a dietician or a magician I was a personal trainer for a couple years so take this for what it is worth. It really is this simple....eat less of the bad and more of the good. The reason most diets fail is because they aren't realistic.....can you eat nothing but meat and cheese the rest of your life? Of course not. Stay away from the fast food, stay away from things that are fried. Eat more natural items, more salads, more baked items. Stay away from sodas, sweet teas, and sports drinks, drink more water water water.
Another important aspect is to change the eating habits slowly. Most people change everything that they eat overnight and they never stick to it. Over a six week period slowly change your eating habits. Working out is the same. The first six weeks do nothing but cardio while you work on changing the eating habits. I guarantee you will lose some weight just doing that. The most I've seen in my history was 22lbs in six weeks and all they did was change their eating habits and do cardio. Do no less than 20 minutes but no more than 60 mins. It should be fast enough that you have a hard time having a conversation. Walk, bike, elliptical, whatever, just get your heart rate up and get sweating. Hope that helps. And there are no quick cures. You didn't get 85lbs overweight overnight and you aren't going to lose it overnight either. The slower you lose it the more likely you are to keep it off because you are doing it the right way.

I am 24 years old and was about 60 lbs over weight. I have lost 40 of em. I started drinking slim fast for breakfast, a light snack (yogurt or fruit) and eat sensible the rest of the day. no soda or fast food!!!!! limit your sodium intake. I also joined curves. Its a great low impact workout (i also have bad knees-- a bone tumor removed from one and torn cartilge in the other). I went 5 days a week, but they recommend at least 3. You should not limit your diet to just protien and veggies. you need fruit and fat and carbs for your body to work properly. limit saturated fats and balance the rest of your fats (less than 20% of your total intake) between the unsaturated fats. Complex carbs are the best ones for you--- whole grains, fruits, veggies, etc. Plus by eating the fruits and veggies you will get fiber that is needed as well. The important part is eating a BALANCED diet and getting plenty of exercise. Curves is very affordable, but if you can't try walking or biking. I also started moutain biking and in the last few weeks have lost another 7 lbs. Good luck!

A side note--- if you have any medical problems: diabetes, hypertension, etc... talk to your doctor/nurse practioner and they can help you with ideas for your eating.

If you have a bad knee, I'd advise against Tae Bo. I've done the Billy Blanks version and it's pretty hard on your knees. If there is a YMCA or community pool near you, swimming or aqua calisthenics are great and easy on the joints. The YMCA offers a discount if your low income.
The only diet tips I really have is to treat yourself to something good once a week. If I restrict myself too much during diet I just end up going overboard later. Also, if you're a sweets junkie, keep some healthy sweets around, like yogurt or craisins.
Good luck and don't give up!

Taebo would be hard on the knee and is hard to do alone. I'd try to find a YWCA with a pool and do water aerobics. Consistency is the key.

There is no secret to eating. Eat a balanced diet. 5 small meals is better than 3 or less big ones.

Take a long term approach. Change your habits for the rest of your life and the pounds will come off each month/year.

You don't need a personal trainer. You need to be motivated to lose weight. No fad diets, no quick weight loss plans. Just get rid of the junk food and sodas and exercise. Get a wrap for your knee and start walking every day. Walk a little further every day. I would bet money that once you take off the weight, your knee is going to feel a LOT better.

I have a bad knee and waiting to get my tendons fixed lol and I am losing weight slowly but safely and steadily. I still have my chocolate fixes let someone try to stop that!!! but what i do is enjoy it and try to eat any before late afternoon also i try not to eat anything "bad" after 6pm . I started a tribal style dance for a laugh at first but i love it and that has toned me as I go, best bit is no pressure on my knee , you go at your own pace. Forget protein and veggies or all those ridiculous fads eat fresh food watch your salt and saturated fat and for goodness sake don't starve yourself your body will hang onto whats it's got if you do. Put the music on and boogie it's way cheaper than personal trainers and much more fun, who cares what you look like lol. Good luck

i've tried them all, diets are just too unrealistic.

the best thing to do is simply cut back on your food intake. instead of eating 2 to 4 portions of food, eat 2-3, then 1-2.

the key is to slowly do it, think long term.

i guarantee you, you will lose a ton of weight, it's not rocket science. patience and motivation is key.

as far as what kind of exercise, start off with an elliptical or some brisk walking (get a good sweat). start off slow, whatever you can handle, then slowly increase your minutes and intensity.

good luck

I have lost 35 pounds since July 15, 2006 by using Stack Body Tune Up and Advanced Cell Therapy energy drink. Also, there is a discussion group at http://www.freeweightloss.com where you can get some support as well.

Since you have a bad knee, you might want to look into exercises for people in wheelchairs or for older people until your knee heals.

There are some things that you will need to monitor such as calories. You don't want to get below 1200 as a rule of thumb.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

try pilates, its easy on the whole body but is a terrific set of strength and toning exercises (lots of hollywood stars use this) also try something like the sonoma diet, i had a friend who did this and lost 20 lbs the first two weeks ! she lost 30 more over 6 months and its been a year and she's still kept it off. she was very happy with it, i think it has lots of veggies and protein but also some carbs...i think you can find out about it online
