Unless it is protected under religious rights, you would
need to work at an animal shelter or need a hunting license to kill an animal.
You should look under the revised statutes in your state and city codes.

There are laws against killing animals of any kind. It depends on what area of the world you are in. Some places have strict laws regarding animal welfare, others not so strict.
Most states and Canada have laws involving the treatment of animals. Say if you were unable to provide the ability for that animal to live eg. food, shelter. The animal may be taken away from you, and you could be charged if that animal becomes emaciated. Also if a body of an animal cruelly killed for no apparent reason is linked to you, you can be charged.
Take a look at this web page. It gives a bunch of links to animal welfare information. In Canada the latest laws regarding Animal cruelty were passed in bill C-15 I have included the link below

I can't cite actual laws but yes there are laws that protect animals from human cruelty. If there is reason to believe you are abusing or neglecting your animals they can be removed from your home. The extreme case would be killing the animal and yes it is against the law. Hope I helped!

Oh my gosh - YES, it is against the law. Yes, it does fall under the umbrella of animal cruelty. And, a large portion of people who abuse animals then turn to child abuse as their next step. Contact the ASPCA or the National Humane Society for the specifics - and I pray that you did have a minute of morbid curiosity and have NO plans of harming an animal. If you do have thoughts of doing that - please talk to a counselor, NOW.

In the uk there are laws regarding animal cruelty and you would be fined heavily, locked up for a while and incur a criminal record. And quite rightly so. However, if it is for, say, putting an animal out of pain that has been injured then you would not incur the wrath of the law, although you might still be targetted by some of the animal rights freaks out there.

The laws against animal cruelty are entirely local. And they exist in most places in the US. You cannot "rid" yourself of an animal except by surrendering it to an organisation that will euthanize is properly or have it done by a licensed veterinarian.

If you are not a vet killing an animal in the US is punishable by law. Ever watched Animal Planet?

In most places it would fall under animal cruelty. Whether it would be a kitten adopted from a shelter or someone's pet if you would get caught there would be consequences.

Actually you can be charged for animal cruelty. I know people who have killed cats for getting in their chicken coops and etc, and they were fined for animal cruelty. they usually say if a cat is terminally ill, and needs to be put down, you have to take it to a professional vet, who can do it humanly. shooting or poisoning a cat is not considered humane according to the law.

You would get really bad karma. If caught you would end up in prison where someone twice your size would do to you what you did to the cat - that would be justice for people who harm helpless things like cats, other animals & children.
That and you would likely be reincarnated as a mouse in a house with 4 cats with a craving for rodent meat.
