It depends on how short of a cycle you have and when you had unprotected sex. For example if you have a 28 day cycle you'd probably ovulate around day 12-15 (approx) but sperm live for 3-5 days. So if your cycle is shorter than 28 days you could most definitely get pregnant while you are having a period.

Sneha_Sunel- sweetheart you are severely mistaken! Your mom might be a gyno but you sure ain't!

For example if she has a 25 day cycle like you say she could most definitely get pregnant while on her period! On average women ovulate 12-14 days before they START their period (everybody is different but for sake of argument) so if she had sex on her period depending on when she would ovulate and how long sperm lives (which is 5 days) she could get pregnant!

And another thing it's not 11 days after the period stops it's 11 days after your period STARTS! The first day of the period is day one.

PLUS- we aren't talking about getting pregnant from the dead egg from which caused the menstruation to begin but the one coming down the tubes for the next month!

Get YOUR facts straight! YOU are giving ignorant answers- now go ask your mom.

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. However, it will not be during your period. Many people think it’s possible because they do not completely understand how conception works. It might not happen right at the moment of intercourse since the sperm can live for days! If your cycle is short and you ovulate earlier than day 14 it can SEEM like conception takes place during your period...They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

The debate on whether or not a woman can get pregnant during her period has been going on for decades now. Just like every woman is different, so are her hormonal balances and hence her menstrual cycle. Though there are generalities on which some ground basics of menstruation and pregnancy can be formed, but eventually it all boils down to individual physiology. So, yes, you can get pregnant during your periods.

Home pregnancy tests measure the presence of a telltale hormone in your urine called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone, produced by cells from the placenta, first gets into your bloodstream when the fertilized egg implants in your uterus (on average 8 to 10 days after fertilization). The amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your body then increases rapidly over the next few weeks, doubling in amount about every two days.

There are early prediction home pregnancy tests available that claim to detect pregnancy as early as 6 days past ovulation. But in spite of their claims, most are not sensitive enough to guarantee you an accurate result at this point. By 14 days after fertilization (about the time you would expect your period), most home pregnancy tests may be able to detect the hormone in your urine and give you a positive result. In fact, you're much more likely to get an accurate result if you wait until a week after your expected period before testing.

No, you'll be fine. You're not pregnant. There's such a slim chance....You could wait a week (best to wait 2 weeks) and take a test. You can get preggy on your period if your ovulation cycle is shorter than 28 days. Birth control is one of those drugs that has to build up in your system, this also means that it takes awhile to get out of your system. You're not pregnant but you can test in a few weeks if it will make you feel better. It takes about 2 weeks from conception for hcg lvls to reach the point where they will show up on a preggy test.
The reason I can definatively say no is b/c you would:
1. have to be resistant to the birth control or have missed enough pills (1 day is not enough) to produce quality eggs
AND 2. Have a cycle shorter than 28 days.
The combination is highly unlikely. You're not pregnant.

The fact is you can get pregnant any time you have sex. Woman have gotten pregnant while on their period. I got pregnant after I had my tubes tied, so really anything can happen. If you don't want to get pregnant you should always use two forms of birth control ie: pill and a condom. Bacause no form of birthcontrol is 100% Look at me, what are the odds :) Wait a couple of weeks to do the test though. So you don't waste your money if it's too early to detect the pregnancy hormone. Good Luck!

Hey there.

Yes it is possible to get pregnant while on your period. There are two reasons...1 - it may not actually be your period. Some women bleed when they ovulate and it seems like a period - cramping and all. 2 - ovulation can occur before bleeding has subsided.

Check out the page listed below for more detailed information.

Either way - please be careful. Unprotected sex even while on birth control is dangerous. Even the pill isnt full proof against pregnancy and doesnt protect against STD's. I am sure you have been told that but I just have to remind you : ) Good luck!

You can get pregnant whilst on your period i think there are 10 days where you are really fertile and tis either from when you start or finish yuor period. But if you are taking the pill (birth control pill) then you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

The answer your doctor will give you is yes. Only because the sperm can live up to 10 days before reaching the egg. However, while you are spotting it is unlikely that the egg would be fertilized due to the fact that your body has already started to release the unfertilized egg. I would not worry to much but I would say right away to see your doctor no matter what. If for anything else to get sound advice from a physician.

Yes, you can get pregnant during your period and at any time during taking the pill. Even the pill isn't 100% effective all of the time.'

Actually there is a chance of u getting pregant. When the sperm enters ur body it can survive in thre for a couple of days. And since you were light, it may be a higher risk..i would say the best thing to do is go to ur doc and speak with them..or wait. Or look into the morning after pill if you dont want to get pregant
