Actually its study question I couldn't find the answer for. there is no such thing as homework...only exams! you get a thumbs down

I remember it being lectured on but I couldn't find the stupid thing in my notes and I couldn't find it in my medsurg book. Whats wrong with getting information from somewhere else for the exam? If you don't want to help me fine..but don't harass me either.

Opiates are a system depressant (meaning the slow every function in the body down.) If you take too much, it can cause the heart to stop beating. Ever hear of euthanasia? They have used opiates for that for over 100 years. You need to get the opiates out of the system quickly. May use Charcoal and Narcan. Depending on how slow the breathing is and the patient's oxygen levels, they may be placed on a ventilator. then it just takes time to see how they recover. Also depends on how much they have ingested.
