I was wondering if this is a State by state thing or is it a new Standard across the country?. I don't mind it cause my son got E's across the board on his first report (not bragging just saying)
But I just wonder how the kindergarten programs vary. We live in Texas

2 years ago in KG my son brought home a folder on Monday with 4-5 pages in it that was to be turned in on Friday. He would also bring home a "baggie book" to read about once a week.

My daugher is now in KG in the same school. She does not get homework on a regular basis. Every now and then they will have a project to do at home and bring in. Any kids who are behind may be sent remediation work to do at home.

Different teachers in the same school, different expectations.

i'm in florida. my son is in all day kindergarten and brings home a packet every monday that is 4 to 8 pages long. reading/writing and math. each page is assigned a day of the week to go with what they do in class. he also has to do a very simple book report called a reading response once a week, he draws a picture and writes a sentence about the book. then everything is due on friday. he also brings home a book every day that gets upgraded by reading level every 2 days.

My daughter is given about 2-3 pages of homework per night in her kindergarten class. Nothing difficult though, tracing letters and numbers, picking pairs, etc. We actually do extra activity together because she gets done so quick. School is a lot more competitive than when we were kids.

I live in San Jose, Ca....and my son only brings homework home once a week and it's not even that much. It's due the following Monday but I wish that he had more homework scattered thru out the week to do. I think that's best.
