I had one years ago, and it didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as I'd feared. They numb you up pretty good beforehand, and you will probably be perscribed something like Tylenol with Codeine afterwards. That is a very effective painkiller. Good luck!

If I assume that you are talking about the pain 'after' you have had the root canal, then you are talking about the 'unevenness' that the 'capping' has left the tooth in. Which means post the root canal, once the doc capped it, he and you did not check to see whether the teeth are all level. From the looks of it, this tooth has become higher than the other on the top.

I suggest you go back to the doc, get the drilling machine on and get the capping even.

AND - if i have assumed incorrectly, and you would like to know how to get around it eveb before you have attempted it, well, then i guess all you have to do is to take a pain killer :)

It's worth getting done. Get meds first and take them for about a week, then get it done. The freezing will work better. If you don't get it done, there is a chance you will need to get it removed. My first root canal, I was asleep and it was wonderful. My second one, I didn't get to take the meds long enough and it hurt. My third one, I took the meds for a week, the freezing worked, and I didn't feel a thing!

The reason that you feel the tooth first is because the infection settles under (or over) the tooth and pushes it out. This is often the first sign of having an infection. If caught soon enough after you notice the spongy feeling or the bite feeling off, meds might get rid of it and you may not need a root canal (at least at that time).

Good luck!

Sounds like you just need a bite adjustment. Make an appointment with your dentist and he will file it down to your normal occlusion.
This visit is painless and all it consists of is a piece of marking paper and a handpiece. You will not have to have an injection. You should be in and out in a matter of 15 min.

Go to a dentist who specializes in knocking the patient out while doing these. Almost everything in life has some pain; to a point, you just have to deal with it.

Drugs. Ask your dentist to prescribe a pain killer.
