Half Moon conures have to be DNA sexed as you can't tell male from females by looking. There's a possible new method of sexing where the bird is sexed with a special camera that sees Ultra Violet colors, but I don't think it is common place yet.

DNA sexing requires you to pluck 2-3 feathers from your birds' chest or clipping a nail too short and sending the blood drop to a lab via a special card. Most countries have a lab that does sexing as well as disease testing. Just Google 'bird DNA Testing' and list your country. I believe There's two in the USA and at least one major one in Canada.

Half Moons can live 25 - 30 years. Most don't live that long due to disease, malnutrition and accidents. As long as you're careful you should have your guy for a long time :-) .

Sex determination on conures, for the most part, is difficult if not impossible. An Avian Vet can determine sex using certain procedures such as DNA testing or surgical testing.

the lifespan of Conures was shown to be a maximum of 25 years and the average lifespan was quoted as being 10 years. I have even heard of conures living as long as 35 years.

Conures can only be sexed through a DNA test. I have 2 sun conures and we had both sexed when they were much younger.

As for how long they live, we were told by the bird store we bought them from that they live on average 30-40 years. The bigger the bird, the longer they live. This of course depends on many, many factors, but if you take good care of your bird, there's no reason it should not live a long and healthy life.

Cute name for your conure, BTW. Mine are named Skittles (female) and Gypsy (male). We didn't know their sex when they were named, so they both got unisex names. :)

The only true way of sexing a half moon conure is by DNA testing or Surgically sexing by a vet. All other ways are old wives tales. A half moon conure has a lfie span of of approx. 20 years or better. They are native to southwestern Mexico.

you can sex it with a chain with a ring on it or a tthread with a needle on it, just dangle it over your birds head if the ring/needle swings back and forth its a boy and if it goes around in circles its a girl. same as if you're pregnant and wanna know the sex of the baby (you do it over the stomach) or if a female wants to know how many kids shes gonna have and the sexes of them in order of birth(do it over the wrist). my mum did it before she had any kids and was spot on. the length of time that birds live to is depended on their size, if its a small bird like a budgie its lifespan could be 3-5yrs however if its a large parrot like a macaw the chances are it will out live you and you will have to put it in your will to someone
