Oh, they can hear and feel the effects of smoking - no doubt!!!

The problem is that most start when they are young and don't know any better (and want to be cool, or a rebel, or just give in to peer pressure)....

When they start, they don't have "smoker's face", wrinkles, yellow teeth, bad breath, smokers cough, abundance of phlegm, heart problems, lung problems, kidney problems, peripheral vascular disease, sexual dysfunction, etc....

Then, they get addicted. Nicotine is a amazingly addictive, which makes it EXTREMELY difficult to stop.

Later, when they are older and have all the above problems...

They either try to quit...usually fail 6-7 times (on average), but then finally quit.

Or they give up trying to quit because "it is too hard"...or they figure, "well...it's too late to quit now"....or "I have smoked all these years anyway"....or other bad reasons...

Many DO want to quit, but just haven't been able to.

But yes, there are some that just don't care...unfortunately.

It is quite a nasty habit.

For your sake (and my sake), I am glad you have such an aversion to it. Second-hand smoke is dangerous, too....

unfortunately it is a very difficult addiction to get done with, there are plenty who want to quit but keep failing attempts, encourage them to quit always, good luck
