well the way i always do mine is i wash my rice in cool water. then i get the right amount of water for the portion of rice iam preparing. boil your water first, then add this hot water to your rice in a seperet bowl. cover and let stand for about 10 min. the steam will cook the perfect rice. after all to much water or to much heat will cause your rice to turn out like oatmeal. good luck to ya hope this helps.

"Fluffy Rice" - 12 servings

In large saucepan, combine 2 cups uncooked long-grain rice, 4 cups cold water, and 1 teaspoon salt; cover tightly. Bring to a vigorous boil, then turn heat to low. Continue cooking 14 minutes (do not lift cover). Remove from heat; let rice stand, covered, for 10 minutes. (To test for doneness: Pinch grain of rice between thumb and forefinger. When no hard core remains, rice is done.) Garnish cooked rice with parsley sprigs.

Make it in the nuker! In a large glass bowl that is microwavable, put one cup long grain rice, two cups water, salt and pepper. Mine is a 1000 watt nuker - so watch the times if yours is less.
Nuke on high for six minutes. Then, nuke at 60 per cent for 11 minutes. Stir and fluff up. Can add margarine. Perfect rice.
You can also do the same in the oven at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or so.

Make sure you wash the rice before cooking as this removes excess starch out which causes it to become stodgy after being cooked. Even if it says washed rice on the pack, give it a good rinse. Good luck.

Simple! boil 3-4 litres of water with tblsp of salt, add 2 handfuls long grain rice, wait till it comes back to boil, continue to boil for 13min then drain. Works perfectly every time! (serves two)
The absorption method is what leads to 'stodgy porrige'- as long as you got lots of boiling water, it'll turn out light, fluffy and nutty!

Use 1 cup rice (preferably Basmati rice), 2 cups boiling water pinch salt, cover with a lid.Bring to boil on stove, then turn to simmer for 10 mins. Remove lid turn off heat, cover with a folded thick teatowel and replae lid over teatowel. Leave for 5-8 mins. teatowel will absorb excess moisture and steam and will leave rice fluffier.
