I am really struggling to get back further than 1837 with my family tree as this is when the Births, Deaths and Marriages registers stop. I really want to get further back and have tried the international Genealogy Index, with little sucess. Can anyone suggest anywhere else I can try?

Hey imajica37,

Sure. But that will vary depending on the locations. For example, I use Scotlands People web site to get OPR (Old Perhocial Records) that date back into 1500s. Bibles are a good source too. The Mayflower Society has records for 5 generations of decendants after 1620.

In Canada, I use a different set of sites. These may not help, but then again, you need to get specific back that far.

If you look up "Vital Records" for a location, you may find that there are alternative sites for town records prior to that date. So, you need to get specific then look for the records.

Also, check the GENFORUM for people researching the surname you are looking for! Sometimes, the research is done, you just have to find who already did it.

-No, I wish I knew how you got that far. Al-tho my family has traced our ancetory back to1600. My Great aunt who did this ,has past so I do not know. She also had the money to travel and visit grave yards and churchs. Even in Ireland where my Daddy's family came from.

Try genforum.genealogy.com/ "last name here" and see if you can find other people researching the same name.
