I was going to attempt to answer this question and then I read the long list of misinformed and malcontent responses by so many social and politically diseased people. The question in itself is loaded toward conflict and irronically the anger and disposition of the question is of the same force causing so much intolerance and violence in the world. Its very dangerous when we attempt to put the forces around us either natural or spirtual into our meaningless and limited human experience. We bicker and argue about who is right and who is wrong yet we don't see the commonallity of it all. No one person can say that they know who or what God is or even if there exists a God at all. However we all know what it takes to make life better. There is not one person that could truthfully say that they are sure that their way is the correct path. To do so makes a fool of that person. None of us know what lies beyond. So we cling to that which brings us comfort kowing that all of our fates are the same. Sometimes we cling so tightly that we lash out at those who don't share our views. The world is not broken because prayer doesn't work or does work. The world is broken because we allowed it to break.

If you were God for one day and people prayed to you, would you answer all of their prayers? Would you give them EVERYTHING they asked for? Why or why not?
God answers all of our prayers, thats what they say right? Did they ever say God answers "Yes" to all of them or that He would fulfill them all? Sometimes God says "Yes" and sometimes He says "No" and sometimes He says "Just wait".
Did your parents always give you what you wanted? When they didn't, were they just being mean or were there reasons you could not forsee or did not understand they said no?
Think about those questions then ask that question again.
So if God stops the fighting for 1 day / 24 hours, a half a day, or an even and hour...how long will it take man to start it up again? If they start it back up, then what was the purpose of stopping it? If there was no violence for an hour over there would you then believe that God had something to do with it? My guess is no you wouldn't. I am sure there has been at least an hour or more where violence has not occured in Iraq, do you attribute those hours to God? Since He put up will you shut up?

Prayer certainly does work, but what would God accomplish by doing this? Let's say you were sincere with this particular prayer:
1. When you heard on TV that for the first time in the entire war no one died, you porbably be a little creeped out and think about your prayer. Eventually, though, you would likely just chalk it up to coincidence. There would be no way to know if it was God or good diplomacy or a lazy day that kept everyone alive.
2. If God were to answer this prayer (as noble as the thought might be) why wouldn't He have to answer everyone that comes along? When the next guy says, "Give me a million dollars - put up or shut up!" God would be obliged to answer wouldn't He?
And, non-sequiter or no, could it be that the kiling is not already worse because of people all over the world that have made it a matter of prayer? No way to know for sure, but we can't rule it out either.

You say "if prayer works" as if prayer were just demands that we make and God grants like a Genie in a bottle. Prayer is talking to God and listening for his response. It involves confession, praise, thanksgiving, and yes, requests. We are told that anything we ask in the will of God we can have.
Can we stop the killing in Iraq through prayer? Absolutely, if it fits within God's will. How do you know that the killing hasn't been stopped at times even for an hour through prayer? You don't. You assume it hasn't because you assume that prayer doesn't "work." Thousands of people can tell you of how they have seen prayers answered in amazing ways, and still you will choose not to believe. So why are you here asking these questions?

Prayer works when it is used to learn and apply the will of God. God is not Santa Claus. We can't just say "God, here's what I want." and expect him to fulfill it. Sometimes he does & sometimes He doesn't. Your demand leaves nothing to God and places the burden on humans. Put up or shut up? No human is capable of fulfilling your prayer request. So to offer that demand to people when it should be offered to God is misplaced.
Once we put the credit for the ability in the right place, the question then becomes, does He want the killing in Iraq to stop? If so, it will happen. Until then I have to assume it's not part of His current plan In the mean time I will pray for peace, which is not necessarily an end to the killing today, but at an appointed time when peace is in place. And unless and until your heart is ready to believe that prayer can and does work, you will never witness its glorious power. Because belief is the core of a relationship with God. Demanding proof that you wouldn't believe even if you witnessed it is the arrogant, boorish and petulant response of a selfish and unruly child.

Do you pray? Simple question. Has God granted you everything you have ever prayed for? No.
God gave this planet to man to do what he pleases with it. If man chooses evil over good, then God has no control over that. (layman terms of a passage in the Bible)
There will come a time when God will call all his children home, no matter what side of fence you are on, as long as you ask for forgiveness you will be forgiven and walk with him in Heaven.
Everyone has sinned at some point in their life, nobody is perfect. The war was started by the evils of man, it was not one person's fault (the pres) that we are in this war. They are there to protect your freedoms of posting such questions on this site.
If you can read and write, thank a teacher. If you have freedom to post on this site and say what you please without persacution thank a soilder.
God doesn't pick and choose what prayer to answer. If people don't get their way when they pray they blame Him. If people somehow get their prayers answered, they of course thank Him.
But it is not HIS fault people are dying by the minute and not only in Iraq but everywhere in the world.
If you don't like it, then do something about it. But NEVER stop saying a prayer for our soilders and all the innocent people in Iraq that the soilders are trying to help to have the same freedoms that you enjoy.

Umm Prayers don't Happen over night. God says Yes, Maybe or No. Just Pray for the Soldiers that are over there and stop worrying about why there is a war.
PS-Satan Started this war to attack the rightousness of People. God is allowing it because this is the end of days. Soon the Return of the Lord will be among us and I am afraid that alot of people will be left behind.

In 1986 millions went to Washington DC for a day of prayer "aimed" at the former Soviet Union. Less than a year latter, the Berlin Wall came down and it was the beginning of the end for the Soviet Union. Powerful people have powerful prayer. As far as Iraq, IF YOU can get the nut jobs over there to stop killing each other, I'll pray for you.

First I feel you need to have some prayers for you. Second, we all can pray for the same things or pray every minute but "we" are not God. We can ask for things but it doesn't mean we get them. God has a plan and God is in control. If God made us do whatever he wanted us to then there would be no war, you would know God and Love God as he wants you to. God lets us make our decisions but you can pray to God and get your answers only if you listen and take the time to hear God. Maybe the best answer for you is to take the time to go to church or talk with people that believes in God and understand that God didn't make us his puppets, God gave us minds of our own to makes choices we make we are responsible for what we do. God is there for you and I and everyone else you just have to except him and be there for him too. Let him in to your life and you will see how wonderfully God does work in our life's. Why is it that you would first blame God for the war. It's never to late to grasp on to God.
