They are different vegetables, but part of the same family and used interchangeably in cooking. A rutabaga is a hybrid of a turnip and a small wild cabbage.

They are different. Turnips and roundish and white with lavender at the top, Rutabagas and large, darker in color, and will be covered in wax. The meat is more golden in the rutabaga, white in the Turnip. The Rutabaga has a stronger taste.

Though the rutabaga resembles a turnip, it is in fact a member of the cabbage family. It has a slightly sweet flesh and a pale yellow exterior.

Different. Rutabaga stinks less when cooking and has a much better, more subtle flavor. Rutabaga looks kind of like cooked apples, where turnip looks like potatoes.

They are not the same, but are very similar. Rutabagas are yellow fleshed and turnips are white fleshed. They taste very similar and can be interchanged in recipes

The rutabaga (Brassica napobrassica), or swede, is believed to have originated from a hybrid between the turnip (Brassica rapa) and wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), probably in Bohemia and as recently as the 17th century.

They are different veggies. A turnip is not long and white, that's a parsnip. A turnip is roundish and white, with hints of purple.
