The fact as I know is that we cannot stop the crown of thorns from destroying the coral reefs, unless we come up with some brilliant creation with laser rays that can pick up crown of thorns only anywhere, anytime, on the ocean floor or on reefs and destroy them instantly. BUT, we cannot do that because there might be a specie or species who is or are dependant on the crown of thorns as their or part of their sustenance.

Back in the 1970s in the Cook Islands, there was a widespread of crown of thorns on the reefs of each island of the group, and the reef being a very important asset to the people for food, the government gave government workers paid leave, and college students a couple of days off to join the communities of each island to collect the crown of thorns from the reefs and bring them onto the land to either burn them or bury them. People were thereafter advised that if they go on the reef and they see a crown of thorn, to bring them back with them and destroy it.

Twenty years after that a crown of thorns can hardly be seen on the reefs, but last year a few months after the cyclone season I went onto the reef on one of the islands and noticed that there were some crown of thorns on the reef and there were quite a few of them. When I got home I rang the people concerned and they said that they were going to get on top of it.

I would think that the only way to do so is to introduce a natural predator into the system with out the organism taking over or hunting them to bring down the numbers. I don't know allot about the Crown-of-thorns, but that would be my guess. I think that it's possible and it will succeed if efforts are more advanced.

Yes...stop polluting the ocean. Injecting them with poison is a very tedious and temporary fix.

No, not single handedly.

Perhaps you need to research service organizations that save the planet.
