I mean who has a child just to KILL it? Sounds like this "God" fella isn't too stable. "God" should be doing a Life sentence in Hell for killing his child, just like all the other child killers out there. Couldn't there have been a better way to get people to follow him without anyones death involved? Especially his own sons. What do you think?

wow. he was a goat? that's news to me...

but it is a good point (and another fatal flaw in the bible). god thinks to himself "the only way i can get my message across is to rape a virgin named mary, and create a human son on earth who will need to be tortured and killed for my message to get across to people."

this is the solution that a God reaches? this is the way he thinks is the best way to make a point and communicate his message? and, he knows the future, so he knows that 2000 years later, this solution of his is still rejected by over 2/3 of the people on earth -- and he thinks this is good???

yeah, that's a reasonable conclusion for a god to come to -- and you will believe that, if you're completely out of your mind and gullible!

You may have intended to ask this as a mockery, however, you are very correct. The Bible is actually where the term scapegoat originates from. In the old testament, the scapegoat was used for the atonement of the people's sins. Today, Jesus is this scapegoat. Read Leviticus Chapter 16. Jesus as our scapegoat demonstrates the enormous love for mankind, that God would even sacrafice his Son to make amends between mankind and Himself

Leviticus 16:
8 And Aaron shall cast lots on the two goats; one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the LORD's lot fell, and offer it for a sin offering.
10 But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

The only way to make atonement was the shed of blameless and pure blood. Goat had to be without blemish or spot. Christ was without sin or blame.

The ritual of the scapegoat parellels the death of Christ in every way, down to the way the goat was led through the streets and out of the town. Read it for yourself.

no. Judas was the archetypal jew. and Jesus was their scapegoat, notice when you read the bible how nice the author treats pontius pilate, who frikken condemned Jesus to be crucified, but it is Judas and the jew priests who are vilified, when ever you read a work of propaganda ,you must pay attention to details and see who is cast in a bad light and who is not. and the Jews were the ones who used the martyr jesus as their sacrifice. the new tesament was written to change christianity from a jewish religion, to a religion for all ,so the jews must be cast in the bad light ,and be the villain to scape goat Jesus, so then everyone can embrace the new testament, and see it is not only for Jews ,they are the bad guys in the story, it is kinda like when the romans used and created their own propaganda, for the country ,by using the myth, the aenid ,to rewrite greek mythology and make their virtues good while vilifying the greeks. also the whole sacrifice issue was changed to a symbolic one so people would stop making real blood sacrifices, with the Jesus story, which really is an awesome tale that does more good than harm in our world today unlike the rest of the religion or any religion for that matter

Perhaps there could have been another way, but think about what Jesus' death teaches us about following God even in the midst of the most extremely adverse circumstances.

Also, remember that Jesus willingly laid down His life. He could have walked away from it all just before the crucifixion, but instead He decided that His death would pave the way for millions to begin a relationship with God.

1 Corinthians 1:18 - For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

God commands those who follow Jesus to esteem others better than themselves. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last. He did it first - esteemed others better than Himself - and He'll be doing it last. In other words, He considered the lives of the sons of Adam who were perishing in Adam's sin to be more valuable than His own life. Father didn't force Jesus to lay down His life. He did it willingly of His own freewill.

But as surely as He had power to lay it down, He had power to take it up again. He's not dead anymore. He's very much alive. And not only is He alive at Father's right hand, He's living in me too by the power of the Holy Spirit which He poured forth from the Father after He ascended on high.

1) For God, death is an illusion, and his son's death was simply a return home after a fulfillment of His purpose.
2) Jesus' death was the result of human action; God did not personally kill his own child.

You're obviously just trying to stir people up here...and you obviously don't quite understand Jesus' death. Jesus wasn't killed by His father, He gave His own life. At any point He could have chosen not to die, but He didn't. That was His decision, and His alone.

Given the original meaning of the word "scapegoat", yeah, pretty much. It came from the goat released into the wild at Yom Kippur, holding the sins of the people on its head.

He loved us enough to sacrifice his child is what he meant. He took his sins upon himself in order to save us from hell, because yes Jesus is the Son of God, but he's also God himself.

You have to remember that Jesus was God. In human form He came and took away all of the crap that we had done to ourselves for centuries. He did not just kill someone because He was bored. He sacrificed Himself after walking on this earth for 34 years and kept all of the believers from going to hell.

And don't forget the great flood! He not only killed his own son, but he killed all living things on the earth because man was wicked. But obviously ALL mankind wasn't wicked or evil. Just like today, alot of the world is evil, but not everyone.
