It is much more intimate and powerful to hold someone and look into their eyes and say beautiful things.

He cares about you, but his emotions may be to strong for him to handle. Don't put pressure on him, but guide him to be closer to you.

Frankly .. if one can't show affection in public ... then there must be a problem (no offence to you dear...) Then again, some would prefer the attention when in public. My advise is.. give it some time, you guys might be new in the relationship, thus needing some time to adjust. But if otherwise, I suggest you to be frank and ask your partner why the cold treatment in public... no use hangin round the bushes ... be straight up forward and get it over with ..

Definitely a shy, nervous guy. It's easier for him to communicate on the phone because he's self-conscious about something. Saying the wrong thing, stammering, bad breath, something. Sit him down and look him in the eyes and ask him, assure him.

If your old enough, get him drunk. That really gets the guys talking and frisky! If hes tou young to drink break up with him and find a guy thats fun to be with.

If he is really shy you have to discover it, but be aware and try to find if he is seeing somebody else.
