Very simple answer.
One to keep people (Berlin) from getting out. Penality for getting caught is death.
The other to keep people (Mexican wall) from getting in
Penality is a hot meal and a free ride back.

Its not a matter of political affiliation (and I'm sure there are some Mexican Communists). The fact of the matter is, they are not citizens, they should not be allowed in the country. Its our land, and we have the right to tell foreigners not to come in. Its not a bad thing whatsoever. If we don't want Mexicans illegally crossing our borders, then we have every right in the world to build a fence, a wall, a moat if we want to.

The Berlin wall was a shoot to kill scenario where people were murdered. It was similar (to keep people from entering into West or East Germany) but much more strictly enforced, and based upon political leanings. The Mexican fence has nothing to do with politics

Wow do you need a history lesson! The Berlin wall was errected to keep people in, keep them oppressed and under control of the government. The Berlin wall kept free people out.

A fence along the Mexican border would protect our country from terrorists, criminals who wish to do harm to the United States and Americans. Like or not - there are monsters who wish us great harm and destruction - least you have forgotten 9-11-2001. A fence makes us safer!

A fence along the Mexican border would protect our country from people coming here illegally - people who put an enormous strain on our economy, social services, welfare, hospitals, schools. Blah blah - they are only doing the jobs that lazy Americans won't do - blah blah. No, instead they are taken advantage of by employers who won't pay a fair wage or don't send payroll and SS taxes to the government.

There are plenty of people (even from Mexico!) that come to this country LEGALLY. Just because it's 2am and no one is around - doesn't mean that running a red light still isn't against the law.

The Berlin wall and the Iron Curtain were intended to keep people prisoners in the Eastern Bloc countries and also to keep Western influences out. The Berlin wall also included minefields and sentries who shot people trying to get into West Berlin.

During the "Cold War" years in which the Berlin wall stood, there was always a danger that the US and the USSR would go to war.

Berlin Wall was done against the residents within a country. Mexican wall is done to illegals trying to force their way into another country.

The Berlin wall was to keep people IN; the Mexican wall is to keep people OUT.

The Berlin wall was a sign of oppression; the Mexican wall is a sign that our government is finally giving a crap about what its people have to say.

M Shadows hit the nail on the head....

The Berlin Wall kept people from escaping. The soon to be built wall along the US Border is enforcing safety.

If you can not see the difference then you are morally blind and I am sure you believe in a world with no countries and just one big UN government held with socialism ideals so no one in the world owns anything we are just kept around to work for the New world government

Perhaps instead of a wall just put in a revolving door. For as soon as some are sent back they are back in the US before the Border Patrol can turn around their cars and head back. It will not change just look at the fences they have now. They would have to put gun posts every 100yards and have tunnel detectors set up to stop the flow. It would be easier to just nuke Mexico and get it over with or just open the border and let them all in. Its a no win situation whatever way you look at it.

The Berlin wall divided a country, the Mexico wall is dividing two countries to try to enforce set laws.
