You need to use a color enhancing shampoo and conditioner for red hair or else it will fade. The best one I have found is by Aveda although if you have dry hair it tends to dry it out even more. Another good one is Redken or if you want something a bit less expensive I believe that Pantene also has a good line for color treated hair. Hope this helps.

since the base was blond..it will surely fade into a pinkish color...so you will have to color it again sooner, after that second aplication of the same color..the color will intensify. then use shampoo and conditioners for red(like john Friedas shampoos and conditioners)....and once a week put a deep conditioning ....be careful of the sun, pools chlorine and excess hair products.
If I am not wrong i think there are products that have sun protection for the hair....

I've been dying my hair red for about 6 years now... unfortuneately red hair dye is one of the quickest to fade/wash out.
use color protection shampoos/conditioners (found at most hair salons), stay out of the sun/tanning beds.
Otherwise red hair involves upkeep--

While I really like blonds, Red headed women are ALWAYS! much hotter!
Having said that, be sure to only use hair products that are safe for colored hair, try to stay out of harsh sunlight, and try not to blow dry, crimp, or anything else that subjects your golden locks to excessive heat.

Use a shampoo and conditioner that is just for colored hair, this will really extend the colors lasting power.
