I am about to have my first baby and I was wondering how long he should stay in the bassinet in our room until he goes into his nursery. I was told 6 months or so but I would like to know how you all handled it and get some advice. I do have those monitor things as well. Thanks!

Ha. I dont think I would have lasted six months with him in the bassinet, and he wouldnt have either.

At six weeks, he was already in his crib. When he wasnt feeling well or something I would put him back in our room in the bassinet, but by six weeks it was the crib all the way.

For one, he was beginning to be too long for the crib. And by two months, he definitely moved around too much for it. He liked to scoot and his head would be at the top of the bassinet right up against it. (He still scoots in his sleep in the crib, but at least he has more room and doesnt hit his head at the top)

Another thing, he slept longer when he was in his crib. While in his bassinet, I guess he could sense us being really close to him so when he would stir slightly, he would start to cry because he knew we were there and he knew we would pick him up and cuddle him.

But when in his crib, he doesnt sense us next to him, so when he stirs in his sleep, he still stays asleep and doesnt bother 'calling for us'

Congradulations on your first child!

My first child hated the bassinet (because of the solid sides - he couldn't see out) so he immediately went into his nursery. My second child stayed for a couple of months but was so strong when he kicked the whole bassinet moved so we decided to put him in his bed. Trust me ! you will sleep better with the baby in his bed - otherwise you hear every movement

My babies didn't like the bassinet, so they only stayed in it a couple of weeks. But I have a friend who used one of the bassinets that attaches to the side of her bed, with one side down, and her baby stayed in that for more than 6 months. For me it was a comfort, until I adjusted to having a new baby, to have him close by until I figured out what were his normal sleeping sounds and habits. (even if it was just for a couple hours at a time!)
Good luck!

There is no right answer. Keep him in the bassinet until he gets too big for it or can pull up. It's usually earlier then 6 months.

Mine only stayed in there for about 2 months then I put him in his crib and had the monitor next to the crib on a dresser toward his head. With this baby I don't know if I am going to put her in my room at all maybe until I am feeling a bit better from delivery, with my son I hurt for a while, but I don't know she might end up in my room all I know is I will not put her in a bouncer cause my sister lay's and sleeps in her little bouncy and now she is 3 months and wont sleep in her crib at all.

that depends, once the baby can push himself up, or roll over they are no longer safe in the bassinet, also there are may be weight limits depending on the bassinet, so it really depends on the development of the baby when you will have to move him to a regular crib.

My son didn't like his bassinet, so he slept in his crib in his own room right from day 1.

My son was about 4 weeks when he went to his crib only because I was returning to work at 6 weeks and wanted him to get used to it and me as well. It depends on the child and you. If you are not going back to work right away, keep him with you. The sooner you separate him from you the easier it will be. He will get used to hearing you breath at night and the sounds in your room will be different in his room. Start off by putting him in his own room for naps then go from there.

I have 2 children...6 and 9...with both it just depended on each childs needs. My son was about 5 months and my daughter was 7 months.
But dont go by what people tell you but what your baby needs.
I used a monitor...those help a lot!

My daughter slept in her crib from day one.

She slept in her car seat for a few weeks because of acid reflux but other than that she was in her room.
