Ronald McDonald and his temples of obesitiy should all be burned to the ground.

Evil places that only serve to clog the veins of the world's population! As for their 'salads'... what a joke, they are chocked full of preservatives as well!

Everyone...VETO mcDonalds!

Unfortunately, due to the changes in society, with dual-income homes, there is less time spent at home, less time in the kitchen, which means more eating on the go. If you study social sciences at all, you will notice that trends usually cycle through about every 10 years. Society has continually decreased the level of importance on taking time to eat. Most companies only allow their employees 30 minutes for a lunch...that's hardly enough time to run to McD's and eat and drive back, much less run home and throw some leftovers in the microwave. There are several reasons fast food is so popular, less value on family time (ie everyone sits at a table for dinner), more time spent at work/school/other events, and overall, society's acceptance of fast processed foods. It is very sad...I agree. I'm just happy my job has a cafeteria that has a variety of healthy choices.

And to answer the question above about why it is now considered unhealthy (ie a burger with veggies)...I also grew up eating red meat. Meat has many nutrional properties (iron, protein, etc) but meat is also higher in cholesterol. The problem with fast food is that low quality meats are usually used, and they fry everything in oils, adding to the fat content. Another problem is portions...our fast food portions are ridiculous! You can eat all the salad you want but if you have a half cup of salad dressing that's just as many fat grams as a 1/2pounder w/cheese.

Can someone explain why beef, bread, lettuce, tomato sauce, onion etc is 'unhealthy' I do not use Mcdonalds much, but as kids (in the 60's) we were brought up on roast beef and its derivatives, bread, salads, sausages, cereals, in fact most of the things that are (strangely) called 'unhealthy' and the only difference is that our food was made at home rather than in some takeaway and I have'nt had a days ilness in my life, and I am not overwieght, I don't frequent the doctors or hospitals, I have been working since I was 15, I am 52 now, so it never did me any harm!

it's cheap and the fat and salt in it immediately satisfy the taste buds. it's also convenient. you know what you're getting every time, because there's one in every town. plus, if you're someone who has been out drinking or smoking all night it's a quick fix for the munchies...open late etc. hehe i've noticed that with a lot of college kids especially. it's easy to criticize those who eat it especially when they could spend their money wisely with something healthy, but some people do not have the money to eat out somewhere with a wide range of healthy choices or always be buying the sometimes more expensive healthy food. there are many reasons, but yeah it is REALLY unhealthy.

Oh my gosh!! I so agree with you! The food doesn't even have a taste. I have never liked their food ~ yuk! I can say though, that there is something about that 'happy meal' and the toy. When they were giving away 'beanie babies,' I knew parents who would buy several happy meals each week to get all the babies. What is wrong with us? I think we're all brainwashed! Let's boycott McDonalds. We don't go there - the kids are grown and now they know better! See ya' at 'IN N Out' - :)

I guess the additives (sodium glutamate etc.) make the food very palatable, quick to obtain and can be eaten on the hoof. sadly the sit down meal has widely disappeared due to pressure of time and time management. I have doubts that this trend is going to have a 10 year cycle and people will go back to eating meals in company around the home table.

For one very simple reason. Because they have been advertised so often on television and on the radio, as well as there being so many of those restaurants around, people are bound to drop in and to eat it when they are hungry. At this point they just fail to realize just how much garbage is put making the food that is available for the customers to eat.
