I take Klonopin, similar to Xanax, comparable dosage. I do not believe that in three days you will develop a dependency of any great consequence. Besides, it's not like the withdrawl symptoms of this kind of medicine are like those of heroin or pain killers... Three days is nothing. At worst you may feel some elevated levels of anxiety and restlessness when you stop taking it, but nothing unmanagable. Also, any withdrawl effects won't be as bad if you wake up and don't take any for the entire day, rather than taking a pill in the morning and then trying to go without it later at night.
The dependency of benzodiazepines is blown way out of proportion.
And ignore DrummerBoy's comment, Xanax is not an antidepressant it's anti-anxiety medication, and IT DOES start working immediately unlike antidepressants. A BA in Psych huh?

Yes. You should have no problems taking .5 mgs for 3 days. I have been taking Xanax for a long time and believe me you can develop a dependence on it. Three days is fine though, just don't go any longer than that and you will be fine. If after three days you find yourself still having anxiety problems, see your doctor immediately. Good Luck.

I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

It should be harmless. I was prescribed one Xanax back when I had to have an MRI so I wouldn't feel claustrophobic in the machine. I went through the test fine and there was no dependency.

From experience & knowledge.....It can take your body up to 2 weeks to feel any affect of anti-depressants. So just by taking the meds for 3 days it won't help. If you think you need them for 3 days your just trying to run away from a problem. If you really want to run away from your problem and it only takes 3 days, stay home for 3 days and hide in you home!

If you are taking other meds, I would consult with your doctor first to be sure it wouldn't cause other problems by mixing them.
You might be having anxiety due to Your hormones (that cope with stress) being altered as a side effect of the medicine you are already taking. You don't need to be experimenting if you are unknown of the side effects of ANYTHING you might be taking currently.

Most antidepressants take time to build in your system - starting and stopping those meds is NOT an instantaneous process; in the case you mention, by the time the meds built up enough to affect your mood, you would of stopped them, making the whole process moot.
Never take meds in a way NOT PRESCRIBED by your doctor.

I wonder why you would consider masking the problem rather than dealing with it and eliminating it? Dependency on some crutch is taking your own power away from you...!!
