I have a Muslim (male) 'friend' that told me it was wrong to have a holy book in a bathroom. I explained that I like to read my bible while soaking in a hot bath.... sometimes it's the only quiet place I can find. What's so wrong about it? and what are Muslim views on this?

No, it's not wrong. Although many people have problems with the idea that a holy book be kept on the toilet tank where "waste" matter might get on it. To them, it shows a certain lack of respect for the book. Similarly, when it comes to reading it in the bath, you might drop the book into the suds and then ruin it.

I don't necessarily agree with those lines of thought, but I think that any Christian, Muslim or Jew should be careful not to purposefully mistreat the holy books that so many people have died to get into our hands.

We Muslims respect the books of Allah, be it Bible or Torah, as for Quran we respect it the most. Before reading the Quran every Muslim will take an ablution first, wear a proper clothing and read the Quran in a respectful manner (not lying down or putting it on the floor). Because for us reading Quran is a form of ibadah (worship) and when we worship to God we want to do it in a most respectable way and in a best manner.

So reading bible in a bathtub would be just wrong for us.

My experience with Muslims is that they tend to treat the physical book of the Qur'an with a fair greater care and respect then most Christians treat their physical copy of the Bible. So I can understand where taking a Qur'an into a bathroom could be considered disrepectful to a Muslim. But I am with you, I find the tub an excellent place to relax and read. My Bible is often read there. It is not how we treat the physcial words of our religion that should be improtant. But rather how we live the words of our religion.

i am Muslim and the qur'an must never be in the toilet coz its dirty place and staying in the bath tub wile u reading bible and ur taking ur cloths off its absolutely wrong .. u must show respect to the bible by reading it in a clean place and good sitting way.

qur'an and bible are the word of god its not as any normal books that we can take it any where .

sure u have time to read it after bath :).
that how we treat our holy qur'an :)

if u're sincerely into understanding the Bible, i admire ur spirit for that and honestly its not that wrong.

From my christian view however, there's a time for everything, according to the Bible. Perhaps it'd be good to finish bathing first? I dont know, its your preference.

Realistically, i think it'd be better if you dont do so, because you might wet the Bible and if you do it might smell, or you'd dirty the book too.

Sure that is WRONG! Why you might drop it and get it all wet! Then the pages would probably stick together and the book might even be ruined. I never read any kind of book in the bath tub.

What? No! You're going to get your damn books wet and bubbly, while I enjoy a good bubble bath with my 80 or so concubines, I refuse to get my newest copy of Quo Vadis ruined just because a few of them want to have a splashing party.

I have never heard of this. Sometimes the bathroom is the only place to get peace and quiet! I say go for it.

islam has strict rules on every thing from how you use the bathroom to how you handle the quran so it would be unimaginable to them but for Christians it is good to read the bible any where and every where and even remeber verses at any time prayers are not restricted God is always listening for us

i'm Christian. i don't think it's wrong. the bath is relaxing and quiet, you can concentrate better.
(ps) when i'm soaking in the tub, i close my eyes and keep my ears under water and spend quiet time with God.

God bless ;)
