I let a girl stay with me for awhile until she gets on her feet. Last night, she left and took my house key. I didn't know she took my keys with her, and well...she didn't come back last night and I STILL haven't seen her today. Since I don't have my house key, I can't leave, because I can't lock my door. My spare key was given to my roommate who is in the hospital, so I don't have the spare either. I don't want to contact management because they're gonna ask me where my key is, and I don't want them to know about this girl that's staying with me. Also, this girl doesn't seem TOO interested in getting a job and helping out with the bills. Instead, she says her sister is sending money. I am not liking this situation, but...this girl owes me money AND she has money from a coworker that was given to her to pick up something for him. I had to miss class and a philosophy quiz today because I couldn't leave my apartment unlocked. What should I do? I'm sooooo mad.

Cut your losses. Get a locksmith to change your locks because she might have made copies of the keys. give her the boot, even if you like her, you need to listen to your instincts about her. We've all been in this situation at one point or another, and getting tough is the only way to be sure you won't be a doormat for even more losses.

Well, I suggest regardless of whether this girl owes you money or not, kick her out. Chances of getting the money out of her while she is free loading are slim to none. If it is a good amount of money, sue her. Contact management, and ask them to change the locks, because you lost your keys for a period of time, and a stranger found them and you are worried that someone now has a copy of your keys. Sure, it isn't the truth, but it gets the locks changed and the free loader is now at your mercy when she shows up. Best advice I can give you, if someone doesn't have a job, and isn't actively looking for a job, they are looking to free load. Don't be taken in by them, and start doing an inventory of your things and see if anything else besides your keys are missing

Organise a candle light supper. This should cheer you up. Better yet, move to a more superior postal code.

get a new lock for your door. and kick her out when she does come back. she's using you, she does not deserve you as a friend. KICK HER OUT! or you'll have more problems.
