Once you sign with the Army, you are locked into the Army until your contract is out. As for transferring to the Marines, my husband who is active army tried it a while back. They would accept him, but he would loose most of his rank. It was just too much money to loose, so we stayed with the Army. However, they don't accept prior Army for every MOS. Before you sign anything, ask the Marine recruiter what the protocol is for joining up after you have served your time in the Army. By the way, the Army is not all that bad. You might find you like it once you get in. Good luck to you.

I dont want to say you cant transfer from army to the Marines, but ive never seen it happen. Also you will need to go to Marine Corps Recruit Depot for boot camp even if you were in the army.
Why dont you just retake the ASVAB and work with the Marine recruiters until you get a passing score. If the recruiter actaully sees you improving and trying to join the Marines, he will help you.
Regrading waiting 6 months to retake the test for a score:
If you cant get a passing score now, you should study and work at it before you think about testing again for a score. There are plenty of practice tests you can take to see how well you are improving.
Also the better you score the more jobs will be open to you. You may just want to sign the contract and leave, but remember this is what you will be doing for the next 4 years of your life and it could give you the training to get a job after the military... think about it.

You could test & join Army but the only transfer comes when you time is up & you will probably lose any rank you gain in the transfer. There is only a 1 pt difference in required score between Army & Marines. It sounds like you may want to go back to school &
with a degree you can go to Officiers School if you pass you can be an Officer. They did not "screw you over", you just do not test well. It will be a long career in military if you try to blame others.
My son is a US Army Ranger & a Commissioned Officer - he worked hard, did what he was told & went in as an honor
student from one of the best universities. Now as a Captain, he enjoys serving his country & takes no excuses from soldiers looking to blame others.

Don't quote me on this, but here's what I think. When you sign up for the Army your going to be under contract for a certain amount of time, I think ussually 4 years. During this time it will probably be nearly impossible to "transfer" to the Marines. So unless your going career military, you're going to have to choose. If you asvab score is too low, then the only way your going to get into the Marines is to retest, or magically get a waver. Also something to consider even after going through "boot camp" with the army, you're going to have to do it all over again when you go to the Marines. I hope this helps, you're recruiter will probably tell you the same thing.

I think the only thing not covered here is that the Marines do not accept U.S. Army basic training. You will have to go through Marine boot camp either on the Atlantic or Pacific ends of the country.

If your score is too low ask the recruiters to help you study for the test. They will be more than happy to help you. Most recruiters have study guides and practice tests in their office. Don't be afraid to talk to them and ask for help. I spent five years in the Marines as a KC-130 Crew Chief. Ask them about that job. I would highly recommend it.
