Yellowing of the eyes is commonly caused by excess bilirubin in the body (jaundice) which is made when red-blood cells are broken down. The body is usually able to get rid of it easily unless there is something wrong with the liver or biliary system (this releases bile to help with digestion).

When the eyes turn yellow, it is the first sign of jaundice. Following is when the skin turns yellow. Commonly it happens when the gall bladder is infected or there is an obstruction and bilirubin (a substance produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder) gets into the bloodstream. Obstruction of the gall bladder is usually resolved by surgery and afterwards, jaundice subsides.

Yellow eyes mean that the level of the pigment bilirubin is elevated. Bilirubin can be high as the result of red cells break down or of liver disease. Eyes /sclera should never be yellow.

I assume you mean the red eye from the flash looks yellow?
The absence of a red reflex in the eye can be a sign of tumours, but a yellow reflex doesn't necessarily mean you've got cancer. It may be a connective tissue problem. Don't panic, go see an optician.
