IF you owe money, TriCare will send you bill after the procedure. More often than not, most medical care is covered. So far, we've never had to pay for anything. However, we know some that have. It all depends on what you have done, how much they charge TriCare and so on. You really should have gotten more info before you scheduled the procedure. Now you'll just have to wait it out and see what happens. It's unlikely you'll have to pay for tonsils.

To put it bluntly -- take your Military ID Card, your Tricare Authorization (if you have it), and your Tricare Identification Card to the Hospital when you check in for your Tonsil Surgery. They will take care of all the details (especially since you have been referred to a Tricare approved facility).

Remember, you will/may have to pay the Co-Pay or deductible when released from the hospital or shortly thereafter (depends on their practices for billing patients). It should be the deductible amount. This is something that the Hospital will bill you for.

(Tricare does NOT bill! It is the Insurance Carrier and makes the determination of the payment for the Medical Service Authorized).

If the base dr referred you then you shouldn't have to pay anything. But you could always go to the Tricare website to get the # for the office in your area and ask just for your peace of mind. Also on the website it has a list of the benefits you are entitled to and i'd be really surprised if this wasn't covered.

If you have Tricare Prime and were referred to the ENT by your primary care physician you shouldn't have to pay anything. I was referred off post for surgery last Feb. and was never asked to pay a cent. However, if you live off post and out of the prime coverage area will probably have to pay a copay and a percentage.

If you are on Prime and having the surgery done at a MTF, I am 99% certain that everything will be covered save your meals. If you were referred out to a civilian hospital, you MIGHT also have to pay for anasthesia.

If you are on Standard, there will be a copay, up to your yearly max, and you will be billed after the fact.

No you shouldn't have to copay are you on the east coast or west. If your on the east make sure you are enlisted with tri-care east and not west. If you are wtih the wrong tri care program you will have to co pay but then they will reimburse you.
