Because we have to abide by equal opportunities these days and apparently women are ALLOWED to drive!

This is because we live in America where anyone is granted the freedom to drive as long as they have the age requirements and pass a written and physical exam. Having situational awareness and understanding brake energy are not on the test.

Actually I should hope they don't only have an understanding of brake energy, most crashes are caused when people brake, putting themselves in the middle of the situation. However, other things should be addressed first, for example, why california has no car inspection beyond the smog check.

Most people learn from experience. BUT, they should try to learn and think!!! In time a person should KNOW how the brakes on their car stop them. They should learn when they see someone on a Bicycle to wait for a safe opportunity to pass. They should learn to tell a car going to pull out in front of them and adjust accordingly. But, the problem is; many people have never learned to learn. Heck, a woman I know, she just stops in the road confused what the other person doing. I tell her, when you stopped you just lost control of your vehicle, all she had to do was keep moving and not worry what the other person was doing, just move to get around and go on. Hard to explain here, but, Driving is a situation experience that many never learn.

Because it's viewed as a right, not a privelage. I passed an accident the other night, travelling to fast on a freshly wet road, lost control. People need to be taught how to drive, properly. A trained monkey could pass most DMV road tests. My oldest son still does not have a liscence, why? Because he cannot drive to save his life. He gets behind the wheel and he forgets everything. So he doesn't get behind the wheel. I learned to drive on my own, then my dad taught me how to "drive". Then the US goverment taught me how to "drive drive" I'm trying to pass these lessons onto my kids.
The vast majority of people today lack the basic mental abilities to understand how much concentration is required to operate a 4,000lb piece of steel travelling at a rapid pace. Anyone remember "And the road ran red"? A very graphic film shown years ago at drivers ed. They stopped using it because it "upset" people. Boo, freakin, hoo. How upset do you think they'd be when they have to pick up a family members remains from the mortuary because somebody, who was too busy talking on their cellphone, didn't see that stop sign? People need to be made responsible for their actions.

Because you can't test for situational awareness and understanding of brake energy doesn't mean that said awareness will translate into good driving habits.

We have incredibly low standards for driving licenses.

They only teach the menial stuff indriver's ed. They fail to stress the real important issues.

Insurance company's could save tons by spending some ad dollars on educating the public on better driving habits like, stay aware of your surroundings, try to maintain a safety zone around your car(including mainting a safe following distance), and avoid distraction.

WELL HAL, THAT'S HOW ARE COUNTRY IS RUN TODAY! WE ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS OUR LEADER JUST LIKE A COLONY OF ANTS, RUNNING BLIND, DRIVING BLIND, DRIVEN BY THE VILLAGE IDIOT! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT I READ SEVERAL OF THE ANSWERS FROM PEOPLE ONE PERSON THOUGHT YIELD MEANT YOU STOP AND THAT SHE HAD BEEN IN 7 ACCIDENTS AND ADMITTED IT. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS THE OTHER PERSONS FAULT? YOU SEE CLUELESS!, AND SOMEONE ELSE SAID THAT IT HAS TO DO WITH THE FEES THEY CHARGE AT THE DMV, WHAT? MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THE DMV ARE ALWAYS IN A BAD MOOD OR IGNORANT THEMSELVES SO WHAT DO FEES HAVE TO DO WITH IT. PEOPLE NOW A DAYS DON'T HAVE THE COMMON SENSE OF THE OLD RULES OF THE ROAD. MOST OF THIS WORLD IS MADE UP OF DIVERSE PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THE U.S.A.'S COMMON SENSE PASTED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION RULES OF THE ROAD! YOU EVEN SEE IT WHEN YOU WALK IN THE MALL'S YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO WALK UP ON THE LEFT SIDE AND WALK DOWN ON THE RIGHT SIDE THEN CROSS OVER TO THE STORE YOU WANT, THUS CAUSING LESS TRAFFIC BUT NO! NOT TODAY. BECAUSE NO ONE RESPECTS THE WAY IT USED TO BE IN AMERICA THIS WOULD ALSO WORK IN THEME PARKS, AND COSTCO-WAL-MART AND OTHER CROWDED PLACES IF PEOPLE WOULD JUST PAY ATTENTION! SO, HAL THIS IS WHY PEOPLE WILL NEVER DRIVE THE WAY YOU WISH THEY WOULD THEY WERE NEVER TAUGHT AND WE WILL GO ON WITH AN IGNORANT SOCIETY TO THE COURTESY RULES OF THE ROAD AND DRIVING. SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE EYES IN THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD, THINK AT LEAST FIVE MOVES AHEAD OF YOU AND WATCH ALL 4 CARS AROUND YOU AT ALL TIMES, SAD BUT TRUE ANYONE CAN DRIVE EVEN A 90YR OLD WITH A TANK AND CAN GO OUT LIKE GRAND THEFT AUTO AND MOW PEOPLE DOWN AND PROBABLY GET AWAY WITH IT! SAD, SAD, WORLD!

No kidding. The Department of Motor Vehicles hand out driver's licenses to people I wouldn't trust to eat with a fork. As soon as the license is in hand a lot of people lose 90% of their brain cells. They also forget the common courtesy of a turn signal....
And for some reason even more think that traffic signals, speed limit signs, yield signs & stop signs are only a suggestion...

You've asked the question of the ages! I've had people park their cars, then open their doors right in front of me when I'm driving by. If I give a tap on the horn, they give me the finger. And I've had drivers going in opposite directions stop and talk to each other with no regard for traffic, pull a sudden left turn in front of me with no signal [not that that helps] - the list goes on forever. I think they ought to be shot with a ball of their own s***, but that's only my opinion.

Same reason some dumb *** gave Brittney Spears both a license and the right to have kids... and to then mix the two in a her own special, unique, rationalized kind of way...

I overheard a conversation yesterday while Christmas shopping for my kids. The woman was bad mouthing some of her students & parents

(I imagine from the conversation that she was a teacher of developmentally handicapped children or a social worker, but I'm not sure?)

She went on at great length about how this one woman she knew of, kept giving birth to children with below average IQ's that are semi retarded and unable to care for themselves and how the mother was unable to care for them.

Anyway, She was in a wheelchair... Hogging up the entire aisle with her shitty talk about these kids who were being both pitied by her... (of all people considering her own malady) and torn apart by her at the same time. then, she went on to say how,

"since they were so stupid, that maybe she should just get them socks instead of spending money on toys..."

See what I mean... One mans logic and common sense is another mans stupidity! I honestly felt like shoving her out of her chair and laughing at her as she tried to get up... As she pittifully asked me to get something down off the top shelf for her because I honestly don't think her friend enjoyed partaking in the conversation either and walked away leaving her to get her own game of cooties... She looked obviously uncomfortable and very perturbed by the entire conversation... but even that never shut her up about it?

Driving and stupidity often go hand in hand (even if it is just a wheelchair) You would think that common sense would have something to do with earning a license to drive a 2 ton vehicle but it doesn't?
