There was a study done last year i believe that took 3 groups of people who were about to undergo surgery. One group was not prayed for, the other group was prayed for and not told, and the third group was prayed for and made aware that they were being prayed for.
Now, these conclusions tended to show overall that there was no benefit to prayer before surgery, but they also had some surprising results. The people who were aware of the prayer tended to have more complications from the surgery then the other 2 groups. Now this is only my own hypothesis but i believe that prayer is completely ineffective, however, if someone believes that prayer will help them, or are expecting a miracle their physical/mental guard will be left down which could account for the complications.
I don't believe that prayer can cause harm from the act itself... however harm can come from prayer in cases where people are sick and pray instead of visiting the doctor... or if someone is in danger and instead of helping the person, time is wasted praying for them. It's more of a consequence of inaction.

I think that you have it a little twisted. More than likely you were expecting the pray to turn out wrong so when something bad happened you bleamed it on the prayer. And do not be fooled not all of those who claim to be Christians are. Sometimes they are not praying to God. By the way saying that a pray can hurt you is also wrong. They don't always get answered in the way that the human mind expects them to be. Do not mistake that for a bad response to a good pray.

I think sometimes it depends on where you are in life. If Christianity is new to you or you are rediscovering it in your life then Satan, then enemy or devil or whatever you would call him does not like this. What better way to get you away from God than by making it look like prayer has caused these horrible things to happen in people's lives? God did not promise us an easy life! I have experienced this in my own life with my husband! It was when he and I were trying to find a church we enjoyed and felt like it was where we should be. We were hit with many problems, but we have persevered. We have been married for 9 years. Honestly, some problems are just a part of marriage we must work through. Also, there are studies that have been done with different people who attend church and pray regularly life longer and healthier lives than those who did not.

This is an informative article titled - Long-Awaited Medical Study Questions the Power of Prayer. Basically the conclusions were that, "the researchers found no differences between those patients who were prayed for and those who were not."

Can you explain why when people who are sick and are healed by miracles that baffle the doctors who didn't expect the positive outcome and they themselves link it directly to prayer? ..I do know this however that when we really start praying there are forces that try to thwart the outcome...it is a spiritual BATTLE.. of course there is going to be opposition making it seem that praying does more harm than good..But I know that prayer changes lives

Prayer does not harm people. Unbelief harms people. What you are being exposed to is the spirit of Anti-Christ, which is a spirit of unbelief, which tells you to be afraid of, or not trust, Godly things. Don't be deceived. Your problems are more likely the result of unbelief and not from someone praying for you.

Sometimes my parents prayed for things that ended up being harmful. That's why I get so nervous when someone says they'll pray for me! I mean sure, it could have been a coincidence, but it was still creepy.

Well I almost died a couple of years ago and there were a lot of people who had me in a prayer circle and here I am. I may be still healing but I am alive through the power of prayer and the grace of God.

There have also been studies that show that spiritual people who pray heal faster and get sick less often than people who are not spiritual and do not pray.
Maybe the act of prayer rids one of negative energy and sends it to the next available sucker. Who knows.
