Ok, I need your help in this.... I need to know how much I should charge for teaching spanish. It all started as a joke and know it's getting serious. I started to tutor somebody and know four other people want me to teach them. The problem is that I don't have a place to meet with them, I used to go to the library when it was just one but now there are four more. So I don't have the money to rent a plce either. Please tell what can I do???? 2 points + 10 points best answer

Hey there
i am looking to learn Spanish myself.you could start your own website, where you could charge people for help with Spanish over email or phone, or for people local you could arrange to meet, but you have to carefully who you meet, i would suggest you make a module book
for example basic Spanish for an hour maybe £5 or £10 an hour. i could help you do this if you wish? as i use to make module for when i was a mentor.
please feel free to email me clairechild2@yahoo.co.uk
and aslo thank you for your message on my question, " Jesus will show me the way" i was very interested maybe we could talk more about that.
anyway good luck and i hope to hear from you soon xx xx

First of all, many libaries have small meeting rooms that they book out for free (I've used them in Houston several times). Finding a room really isn't hard if you're creative (I also used a training room in a local small hospital for free for a couple of years).

For fees. Since you're just starting with tutoring, tell them that you use a "sliding scale" based upon how serious they are (if they want to go long-term with you, charge a bit less...if you feel that they're only going to be around for a short time, charge a bit more). Also, adjust your fee based upon their ability to pay. If they come from a middle-class family it would be different than if they came from an upper or lower.

Your question is more on the dollar amount (not the philosophy) so here's what I'd suggest. Drop by the local community college or university (where spanish is taught). Look at the bulletin boards for student services (like tutoring). Get a good feel for the price range of fees. Adjust yours accordingly (too high, you lose clients...too low, you're losing money for your time/skill).

You might also call other tutors and ask them how much they charge. Many professionals are more than willing to share this info with another collegue.

the best way to do this is a one on one situation. get an appointment book and have these people make appointments with you. there is no reason that you should have to teach all these people at the same time. that way you can still use the library.

there are usually rooms in the library that you can reserve..or you could just do one on one lessons...
