I don't think you'll find a law requiring landlords to allow pets, unless it's for a disability. Apartments are, for all intensive purposes, privately owned properties. It is up to the individuals/corporations that own the properties what they will allow at their properties. I know of some places that don't allow kids either. It's up to the property owners.

You're actually wanting to make it law that landlords have to accept pets? It's a REALLY bad idea.
It's so bad, I don't know where to start.
Do you understand that passage of this law would take away some of the rights of ownership of property?
Do you understand that this is a loss to the owner?
Do you understand that they will probably try to spread that loss around to all the other tenants, which means YOU are going to cause a general increase in rents?
This is so bad, I sincerely hope you get laughed out of the town meeting.

I had to take a course in NY to own a multi-family home. Being a landlord and residing in the home gives you more rights about who can and cannot live in your home rather than being an absentee landlord. Examples are pets, children, (yes you can discriminate against children), smokers and other things u deem necessary. Sorry I don't know about the legalities for you good luck in your search!

it's like this, suppose your dog sheds hair everywhere and you don't vacuum and then it poops all over the floor, and you like it just like that, then suppose you move out and someone else moves in after you that is deathly allergic to dog hair and feces will kill their kids. do you think it's fair to them? that's why landlords make you pay for pets and there is no law requiring them to allow it unless you need it to help you if you are blind or handicapped, then again you still have to pay. so why make someone else suffer because you want a pet? then aagin, pets do lower blood pressure, so i guess then if you are so stressed out that you need a dog to pet, then by all means, but the landlord can still say no in all states.

Landlords are required to allow pets if they're for assistance for the disabled, i.e. guide dog or psychological support.

there is no law which forces the landlord to accept pets or bans pets, i think pets like guide dogs should be allowed, goldfish and others but my landlord did not allow me to keep my puppy which is why i had to give it away, i think its the landlords choice.
