Read as much as you can in English, it might be difficult at first but just skip over the words you're not sure of and try to get the gist of what you're reading. After a while you'll understand more and more, and this will help you with spelling without you realising it. Also it helps to listen to the radio and watch TV (without subtitles), basically just immersing yourself in the language as much as you can. You could also see if there's an English speaker in your area who wants to learn your language, if you get together for a coffee to chat you'll both end up learning. Good luck!

Of course you can improve. If you want to work on your vocabulary, your MyYahoo page can actually give you a word of the day every single day, if you add it to your page. Then you can try to use your new word everyday to practice. As far as writing, try writing letters to people and stories to practice and read A LOT. Reading is going to help you with your vocabulary and your writing skills.

Associate with smart people with large amounts of vocabulary, like me!! OK here is some real advice, look up normal words that you seem to use often and then look them up in a thesaurus. Write down the words that are beside the word that you looked up and start using them instead.

I'm spanish and to improve my english I use to watch english/american movies in original version with english subtitles (in order to catch some difficult words or too fast speakings), also try to read a book, but the most useful to me is to read everyday the news from BBC and CNN webpage...

Reading helps a lot. Reading anything really. While i was in high school i wanted to expand mine too. i read poetry a lot and a lot of short stories. anything i could get my eyes on. the back of cereal boxes...anything..it does really help. and if you hear a word and don't know what it means, write it down and look it up when you have a chance.

You need to read a lot. Also whenever you come across a new word, make sure you look it up on the Internet or a dictionary.

Read plenty of good quality books written by recognised authors. Make sure you have a dictionary on hand and ALWAYS look up words you don't know the meaning of.

share with you my experience.. althought my english is still lousy now.. but as compare to five years back, i improved a lot... first, you have to read.. and read novel, newspapers... force yourself to read at least one hour per day.. occupy your free time by reading novel.. newspaper.. or something u r interested with.. and record down five new vacabs per day....remember to choose those vocab which you read very often but u r very unsure with the real meaning of it... it help!! that's how i improve my vocab .. althought there's a long way to go consider english is my third language.. but it helps and i will say, determination is the critical word for success.. good luck to u ~
