Here's the situation...
A man comes into ER. He has been severely beaten, stabbed multiple times, and shot. He is now in shock, but still alive. despite the actions of the ER doctor, he dies after a time, and nobody can believe that he lived as long as he did. In fact, the ER crew is amazed that he was still alive when he was brought in by the EMT's.

Here's the catch...
The victim is a vampire who has not yet turned completely. He died as a normal process of turning, but he will revive and have vampire strength and special powers. And the hunger.

Here's the question...
What tests and procedures would be performed on him while the doctors are trying to save him, and what wierd things would one expect to see from those tests and actions if the victim was a first-stage vampire?

Use your imagination, but make it believable.

You are correct. I need to get a life. In the meantime, I hope someone can answer the question.

Don't forget to add about the results of the tests. For example, the CBC's. What would the RBC's be doing? How would they behave under the microscope? What other unusual observations from the test can one think of if the subject was a vampire? Thanks for all the suggestions so far. They are all good!

besides the standard bloods tests and the type & screen to see what blood type he is to receive blood; if he was in some sort of saveable condition they would do some x-rays to see where the bullets entered and exited and an bedside ultrasound to see where the bleeding is, its doubtful they would have time to do a CT scan if he was that severly injured esp if he died in the ER - no consents would need to be signed for ANY of these things by the way. a psych nurse would attempt to find out if who he is and who we should notify.

Sounds like you are trying to write a book or movie and got stuck. I'm not an emergency room nurse, but I know they would do a CBC to find out his hemoglobin level, probably arterial blood gases (ABGs). They would type and crossmatch him for transfusion of multiple units of blood, which might be interesting, because I'm sure his blood is not normal in any way. They would be cleaning the wounds, and applying pressure to any wounds that are actively bleeding, taking vital signs frequently. Trying to locate any living relatives in the area. Getting consents signed.for any invasive procedures, such as transfusions. There are probably many more things being done in the ER. You don't mention how cooperative this patient is. They may have to restrain him, which might be difficult if he is a vampire with tremendous strength. Water burns him, so the IV solutions they would try to put in would be lethal.

You could say that one of the nurses or doctors was wearing a cross necklace and that when the patient saw the necklace immediatly started having fits, or attacks... Also lets say he was taken to a christian hospital... or like a St anthonys memorial hospice...hahah... as soon as he was taken inside he could have started cursing in a different language. Some tests performed could be blood test... like they go to pull some blood and CANT get it to come out (since he has none), ALSO say they go to shock him and every time they do, his fangs come out, and theyre all surpised by this, and dont know exactly what to do or say... So they call a pastor to give last rights to the dying and the paster walks in and starts to speak and the patient seems almost possessed and reaches out to grab the pastor by the neck and grabs his cross which burns a mark on his hand, in which finally kills the vampire.

Try reading Anne Rice (for the parts where Louis and the little girl turns) this will give you a good clue as to what is happening.
Now just try and put it into a medical context.

A psych consult would be my first step. Then get a CBC, Chem 7 and get a tox screen.
