Where does it say that masturbation is wrong? I've read SO MANY questions from Christians asking "how do I stop" or "I know it's wrong but...."

Wouldn't you want someone to do that before he searched out another way to get his sexual frustration out?

It's not hurting anyone so why is it seen as "bad"

It is a mistaken reading of when a person in the Old Testament "pulled out" too soon during sex. Masturbation is even seen as normal by the Roman Catholic Church. Just becoming obsessed with it is wrong, like becoming obsessed by anything. Addiction equals slavery, whether it is to alcohol and other drugs, gambling, masturbation or anything. Just stop before you palms get too hairy.

This is one of the problems of Christianity that stems from the early church fathers (and Paul). They saw life as better celibate and took original sin to the extreme. Women were seen as foul and filthy creatures, but one still had to marry and produce children (although Paul did say it was better to stay pure but better to marry than to burn...what a choice....). Priests yet were still married in many cases. It wasn't until the 11th century that celibacy was forced upon the priesthood and we all know that celibacy is not an innate human behavior. Children learn that masturbation is pleasurable very early in their development. All it is is pleasure. I'm still baffled that most of the pleasurable things in life have been deemed unworthy by Christianity and should either be avoided or kept at a minimum. I agree that it's not a good thing to masturbate all day but as a release it's a fine thing. Well, that's my take on it. Blessings.

There are a couple of Biblical references, one about "spilling seed on the ground" and another in everybody's favourite vice-dens, Soddom and Gomorrah, but the idea is that to waste the "life-giving" gift of God (yes, that appplies to both sexes) for the purposes of satisfying "human lust" is an abomination to Him Upstairs. There seems to be some idea that it's a form of adultery (as is practically everything sexual other than male-female union for the purposes of creating children), and hence, a lot of people fall back on the Comandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery" to justify the idea tha masturbation is a sin, and a biggie at that. The idea is that it's hurting God, somehow. (Shrugs) Don't look at me, I only work here :oD

However, it's entirely possible that these rules were made by men with a puritanical hatred of their own bodies, and essentially they didn't see why anyone else should have if they weren't getting any.

lol I merely throw that out as a suggestion...:o)

There are many different feelings by Christians on whether it is wrong to masturbate or not.

When a person masturbates, they lust after another human being which is a sin.

If you can masturbate without a single impure thought, then I'd have no Biblical argument against it.

Ephesians 5:3
"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people."

Hard question for modern organized religion to sufficiently answer. I know this as I have researched this question for over 10 years. The only answer that satisfies all the perceived requirements is:

If masterbation is wrong then that belief implies that you do not love yourself enough. This belief is that you can not touch yourself for physical gratification because you are to hold yourself sacred for a monogamous relationship.

Now that I have satisfied the legalistic requirements of modern organized religion, I shall proceed in my personal tesimony.

I am a habitual masterbater. I am a believer in God through what God did through Jesus on the cross at Calvary. If masterbation is a sin and I do not repent then I will go to hell.

Hell, here I come.
Sincerely,

There are many things which don't hurt other people, and yet which are seen as 'bad' by various religions.

Christianity became an anti-sex religion in Victorian times. Because sex was designed by 'God' to be for the purpose of reproduction, it followed that any indulgence for the purpose of pleasure was a 'sin'. This is why birth-control is frowned on by the Catholics.

This one aspect of religion has caused untold hardship and misery over the years.

1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)

"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body."

"When tempted, no one should say "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed" (James 1:13-14).

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

It is bad but you are only corrupting one person Yourself.
There is ALWAYS a way out, you just have to look for it, when you feel yourself being tempted get up, get out, go do something, play a sport. Everyone is tempted even Jesus was tempted and he didnt give in so don't you give in. God will make a way out of no way.

"Worry about nothing, Pray about everything, and Love everyone as Christ loves you"

The answer is that it's not wrong. The world is stupid for believing such Xtian idiocy.Of all of the scriptures that fundies have distorted and removed from it's original context, The sin of Onan has got to be the worse.According to the book of Genesis, Onan was punished with death, not because he touched himself, but because he was told to knock his sister in law up and he pulled his pecker out of her when he came.Any simpleton can see that has nothing to do with masturbation (IF you believe in the Judeo-xtian book of fairy tales in the first place).Let me ask you a question friend:Whose genintalia is it?
Whose hand? Who will enjoy it? IF any harm came to a person for beating off (and there is no harm in it for the record)
Who would reap such "Grievious punishment" for it? The answer is YOU.So in lieu of this, who should make this decision?

YOU already know the answer.

technicly if you believe in the theory i think therefore i am. the bible does say if you have commited adultry in your mind you have done so in real life. even premarital relations are considered adulterous because the person you marry later you have commited adultry against, according to the bible. the interesting thing is when watching an act of violence or something we have done ourselves before we actually stimulate cells in our brains called mirror cells that cause us to feel empathy (the same feeling that you are watching someone else experience you are feeling as well) we derive sympathy by these mirror cells from the act being translated to how you would respond. hence thoughts translate into actions.

It's not what God had in mind but don't be so judgmental on God He made us & do we ask for it or is it because of sexual images thrown at us. Another myth to straighten out: Christians don't like sex or some nonsense to that effect. I wish some on here would start taking notes b4 they think they can speak 4 Christians.
