Yes, you can substitute green onions for chives or scallions. Since they are bigger than chives, generally, the outcome may have a slightly different look to it, but it should taste pretty similar. I always substitute whatever I have in my kitchen for what the recipe calls for-I've found some great combinations that way! Have fun!

Sure. You can substitute anything in a recipe!! That's part of the fun of cooking! But, yes, green onions are a common sub for chives. If you cook a lot and have a call for chives, just purchase some dried ones in the spice aisle.

I actually think you might like the flavor of chives better. The taste of both are similar enough that it won't change the recipe all that much. While you're at it, have you ever used capers in a recipe for deviled eggs? Very yummy.

I have before. It will change the flavor a bit but remember you can always play with a recipe. When it comes to adding flavor you can add items or leave them out. However, becareful with substituting items like milk, eggs, flour, oil, etc. Those items generally make the recipe. Hope that helped :)

yes you can, but if you use the green onions, just use a touch less than you would have with the chives, fresh is always stronger!

Yes but it will slightly change the flavor. Recipes are not set in stone, play with them and make your own creations.

I do. Both have a pretty subtle flavoring so the substitution should work.
