Go on a date. Eat, watch movie do anything you guys like.. you can even try spending your time at home snuggling close to each other while watching a movie. For some it may be boring but it has benefits. Try to reminisce all the good moments / funny moments that you did together. It might be a simple thing but it promotes open channel of communication between you two making your relationship more stronger.

Well, the modern gift for a first anniversary is paper. Pull down the blinds and play poker, but the ante is written on pieces of paper, things you both want to do (sexual or just around the house), and the loser of each "pot" has to do them. You can drag these out for a year if you want. Each write down an act or fantasy or wish you want, instead of money, you raise or ante up with your wish..."I'll see you one massage, and raise you one bubble bath." With a romantic dinner and a little wine followed by playing this game.....Have fun!
P.S Remember to "dress" appropriately for the occassion.

First year is Paper, buy a book write a note, something that won't take long meet up at lunch that day since you both can't take the day off.

My favorite thing to do, which my boyfriend and I do every year on our anniversary is we go to dinner at The Melting Pot. It is a fondue restaurant and it can be expensive if you go all out. Traditional first anniversary is paper. So think paper... tickets (theatre, movies, event, concert, etc) going over wedding photos together, creating a scrapbook together of the wedding photos if it isnt done yet.... etc

recreate ur first date! we do it every yeart(2 years so far) and its very romantic. we both even still have the same clothes we wore,and we do everything as on our first date.
