"urusai (うるさい)" or "damare (黙れ)"
You say you're studying the Japanese culture, so I'd like to tell you that the Japanese women may say "shut up" to their family members and close friends, but not to others.
When you want to say it to someone outside your inner circle, you say angrily but politely "shizukani shitekudasai! (please be quiet!)" or "shizukani shite itadakemasenka? (would you please be quiet?) " to someone who is obviously much older than you.

Well there are a few ways to say it, but 'Urusai' should suffice well enough. To make it more interesting throw in something like, 'Urusai Ketsunoana' Now, don't speak that last one to someone who actually knows Japanese, say it to the oblivious ignorant people.
