ha ha thats funny....Cats are very independent and they have different personalities from other animals...Your cat has carried this trait on from its ancesters,it won,t hurt anything, its just really cute and unique...Shes just very pickey and prefers to put it on her paw, instead of dipping her head down, she likes to do that....Cats in the wild will do that so that they can stay alert and don,t get caught by unexpected visitors........Its just part of her genes....Enjoy it you have a unique cat......................

My cat used to do this too. I think its because 1)cats are very concerned with being clean, and drinking right out of the bowl for some would just not be "proper" and 2) since cats don't like water, some may just not like the idea of almost sticking their head in a bowl of it to drink. They'd rather keep their distance. Cats are so funny.

None of my six cats has ever done this. I think it's rather charming though. My 22 yr old cat started to use her paw to draw the water bowl to her about six months ago and it makes a mess as the water is always splashed all over. So I have put towels under the bowls to absorb the slopped water.

I don't know why other than personality. I had a roommate that had a cat that would jump on the counter and drink water out of your cup with his paw. It was funny, but I guarded my water, because all I could think about was kitty paws in the litter box.
Anyway, he was cute and had tons of personality. I bet your cat does too.
Good Luck and Take Care

I have only seen my cat do this when she drinks from the faucet. And she doesn't lick her paw she just seems to be testing the temperature of the water. I put fresh water out for her everyday, but she always seems to prefer to drink it straight from the tap.

This is very common cat behavior. They prefer to drink running water as opposed to standing. The action of pawing the water stirs it up. This also explains why he might want to drink from the toliet or your shower occasionally. The chemicals we use in tap water and washing our dishes can be distasteful to them.
I got my little kitty a dish that circulates water.

there is no real way of knowing. unless you can read her mind. its not so unusual but it is odd. ive seen cats that drink water from a faucet, from a sprinckler, and from a shower(the shower was spraying the cat with water while it was drinking) it may just be the way she wants to drink water, you dont need to be concerned.

I've actually met a couple cats who do that. My cat, however, won't drink water out of her dish (she just plays w/it and gets water everywhere), she only wants to drink from a tap that is dripping or from the toilet. The first time I saw her drink from the toilet, I freaked. But that was nothing compared to the first time I saw her pee in the toilet. Now I just have to teach her to flush:)

Its the nature of the beast. My cat does the same thing, its harmless. When I,m home I put the tub faucet on to a trickle, she loves it!!! I think I,ve created a monster. I barely get inside the door and the water song begins!! I love her and she knows it, just enjoy!! Your cat has her own personality ,just like you. She likes water, your doing the right thing keeping fresh water available for her, maybe its a female thing. Is she a longhair? Mine is, enjoy her eccentric behaviour. Email me if you like, we exchange pictures ,stories.

My cat did this to, He use to coo or pur like a raccoon instead of meowing. He also would pick up his food w/ his paw and eat it that way. But i thought he was raised by coons since he would only come to you if you cooed at him. But he grew out of it and i guess realize he was a cat or something.
