I don't believe in having a babies ears pierced. That makes it the parents choice and not the child's. That child may not want it done....ever. I also disagree with the fact that it doesn't hurt. If it doesn't hurt, why do babies cry?? Why do adults grimace?? Another thing to worry about with them too young, is infection or allergies. Many children, especially babies can only have certain metals in their ears.
My daughter told me at age 8 that she was ready to have her ears pierced. I told her she'd have to take care of them. She said she was ready. We haven't had any problems with them. She cleaned them just like they told her to. She waited her 6 weeks, then couldn't wait to change them. My daughter gets a green finger when she wears rings that don't cost much, so I get her sterling silver or earrings for sensitive ears. Silver seemed to be the only thing that didn't change her finger color, so that's how we decided what to pierce her ears with. It was a good choice.
My suggestion is to wait until she's old enough to decide. It will also depends on how responsible she is and how much you're willing to help her care for them. It's fun once they get to this point. Mine wants to look at jewelry all the time now.
Good luck!!

Both of my daughters had their ears pierced at age 4.
My younger daughter's ears become infected some time later and we let them close. She had the re-pierced 2 years later.
I think that you have two choices with ear piercing. Either you make the decision when to have them done, or you wait until your daughter makes a decision.
Good luck.

I had mine done when i was 7 and then a 2nd hole at about 15. I wish i didn't have either of them. I never wear earings now and still have the little marks on my ears. We have a daughter who is nearly 7 and have decided at this stage she is still too young. Nearly all her friends have had theirs done and to tell you the truth, our daughter doesn't mind at all. Sometimes I buy the little stick on shiny stars etc and she will wear them. It's no big deal. I think little girls are pretty enough that they don't need the extra bling.

I think a good age for a girl to get her ears pierced is an infant, but since you said she is passed the baby stag.e you should probably get her ears pierced as a toddler

The best age depends on the child. If you feel your daughter is responsible enough to take care of her ears, then go for it.
Another thing to think about is if she is in any sports or activities that do not allow jewelry to be worn. If this is an issue, then you will have to wait, since starter earrings are supposed to be worn all the time.

Both of my girls got their ears pierced when they were about 6 months. There really isn't a age range for it but you don't want to wait too long because as they get older they realize the aggrevation with the slight pain of pierced ears. My mom had her ears pierced just 10 years ago when she was in her late thirties and it was hell for her because she was not used to slight swelling of the ears. So get them done as soon as possible.

I pierced my daughters at the age of 1. But I think that if she's atleast 5 and wants them done then go for it ;0) 5 is a special age for little girls... they start feeling more "grown up" and they can make semi-informed decisions regarding themselfs. Kinda. Thats the age when they love make-up, dress-up and sleep overs.. I think that's a great age to pierce ears. Good luck and remember if she changes her mind when she gets older all she has to do is take them out.

Its best to get the 1st set before the age they can start pulling at the ear...around 2 months. Any other holes should not be until they are about 12. My 8 year old wants to get her cartilidge pierced, I told her when she is 12 she can have that done.

I think a good age would be when they know how to take care of the earing, the studs at first to know they have to clean & rotate, so they do,nt get an infection, if they can do that then there old enough. I have boys, but thats just my opinion, good luck.

i had my daughters done a couple months ago when she turned 3. I did it then because she was old enough to sit still and also because she is past the stage of pulling on stuff so she wouldn't try to rip them out. She loves them and we have had no problems with them.
