So we've got a number of pots brewing right now. We've got our occupation of Iraq, our potential invasion of Iran, and a potential attack by North Korea. Sound like we're going to need quite a number more troops. Where will they come from? If a draft were to occur I would do everything in my power to dodge it. How about you? Perhaps if Wisconsin (where I live) were being invaded and people I know were threatened. But that would be a crazy circumstance. Other then that I can't imagine allowing myself to be put in that situation. I would feel like I was fighting for the wrong things. Maybe even for the wrong side, in some circumstances. What do you think?

I would go in a minute - If USA doesn't stand up for its self then who will - I don't want to have to live any other way - I don't want to be told how or where to live or where to work or how to worship .

Guess what Wisconsin is not off limits to the terrorists. I believe you have to be one of the most selfish people I have heard of. There is no draft right now. We have an all volunteer military, regardless of the lies and spin some try to put out on Yahoo. I would certainly go into the military if I was drafted. I love the US and will support it in any manner deemed necessary. Those of you who do not feel this way should take a moment and try to find another country that would allow you to speak and act like you do and not require any sacrifice of you for doing so.

Since Bush just drafted 35,000 what are you saying? The draft is the National Guard now. Also did you know ever new born child now gets a S.S. number at birth. Republicans also just passed legislation the allows the Government to track any high school class after Graduation. I hear Mexico is nice this time of year. So is Canada and it's easy to cross the border.
BTW, it is a bare face lie that we are fighting terrorist in Iraq so we don't fight them here. A terrorist will not face our service men in a fight, they are cowards, they do the dirty work behind our back, Just like Nam. It's a no win Civil war and only Bush supports his nation building agenda in Iraq.

How come most people seem to assume that going to war is just a given and our problems are over whether to draft or not (and what to do if so)?

I think we should protest going to war in the first place, so the draft isn't even a relevant question.

Hopefully Wisconsin will be the first state draft and close the borders so the Clinton's of Wisconsin won't run to Canada

Being told you have to go kill people.........is just so screwed up.

I've seen the effects the Vietnam War and World War 2 had on my family and none of it was good.

The bible says 'do not kill'..'be peaceable with all men'..'love your enemies'...if all mankind were to follow God's laws or even Jesus' example nobody would be going to war.

If you kill someone it's called murder and you get in trouble...and then the government can send you out to kill people?? Makes no sense.

I know a lot of people don't agree and think otherwise in this world but I live with the consequences of my actions and you will with yours.....................

You Liberals are incredible. You whine and moan about a draft that nobody but you is even contemplating!

Just admit that you don't have any real issues against the President that you hate so much.

Losers! [HAH! That came out better than I meant. Dems keep losing, election after election, because they WON'T LEARN. They are defeated by their own hate.]

If you feel that way you are very very sad. If any american was threatened we all have an obligation to defend them.
But don't worry we have become to soft to handle the reality of a draft. I expect us to use foreign troops in the future.

My 5 year old daughter says she wants to go to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD just like her Grandfather did. She is proud of our family's military service, and wants to carry it on.

If she is serious, and does well enough to get into Annapolis, my husband and I will be incredibly proud of her.

I will be proud to see her carry on the military tradition of our family - we had a nephew in Iraq, and my father-in-law served in Korea and WWII, and his father in WWI. My grandfather served in WWII as well.
