very often we hear that some phycho has entered a school and shot down small children. when we see or hear this news, we all are shocked, but is there nothing else that we can do about that.

why not just ban these weapons from being sold out in the open and deny access to the general public. why not have a very strict policy of issuing licence. won't this at least curb voilence to a certain extent. why should we live in the fear of having to confront some stranger who might be armed and might cause destruction to life and property. can't something be done about it.

displaying and selling guns in shops like wal-mart increases the chances of people buying them. u dont have to own a gun to protect yourself, if the people around u are not having free access to own guns.

possessing weapons for some makes them feel more powerful than others and in the spurt of the moment, causes them to just fire before thinking or analysing the causes or results.

i dont mean just criminals or phychos, even students manage to steal their father's gun to take it to school or college to just intimidate others and u never know what they end up in when unduly provoked.

of course getting ammunition through illegal means is always there, but how many have the money and influence to get it that way. a school boy may not just have the influence to get hold of a gun illegally and shoot his teacher or others.

if its not that much in the open, then wont the incidence reduce.

please don't compare a gun to a car or an automobile. a CAR is a means of TRANSPORTATION and not a weapon, whereas a GUN is a WEAPON or an ammunition that is meant to harm or kill, whether in invasion or in defence. so please dont get confused with the two.

yes, sale of guns in the open shops, should be banned. by giving easy access to weapons, we are actually encouraging violence. possession of a gun, makes some people feel psycholgically safe, but it also makes some feel more powerful than the others, and they are then tempted to use it, just to feel the power it gives to them. they love it when they see others threatened by it, or love to threaten others or blackmail them into doing things. they love the feel of power that it gives to them.

having so many weapons around, makes it more likely that they are stolen or misused. countries where the sale of weapons are banned or prohibited, have a lesser rate of gun crimes by individuals. of course, i'm not debating about terrorism here. anyway the more u find something around, the more that is likely to be misused, especially if it is something as harmful and fatal as a gun. so the sale of weapons in the open better be banned and we better rely on the emergency phone number 911 and our police force to help us in case of an emergency, which God forbid should'nt arise. let's hope and pray for a peaceful world.

Great question, I don't think that banning guns would solve anything for two reasons.
One, we already have some strict laws, but they are not enforced. For example, I hear a lot of the "gun show" loophole where you can get around National Checks by buying at a show. However, most shows are run by clubs which require a background check to get into the club. If you enforced the laws you already have, you would have less crime. One link pasted (From a website supporting more control not the NRA) states that 1% of the shops sell 57% of the guns used in crimes.
For the second point, i have not so much a fact, but something to think about. The average time to respond to a call in Wash DC is over 7 minutes, and this is for serious issues. Would you rather wait 7 minutes with a firearm if someone broke in, or unarmed? I would like to also point out that washington DC has a very strict gun law banning most private ownership so your choice would be forced to the second scenario where you would not be able to buy a firearm to protect yourself legally, but the criminal would be able to get one illegally.

Hi Everyone,
Eerrm, actually i don't really know how it feel to own a firearm though i've actually used it.

Maybe someone should propose this: Before a firearm is being sold, they should check on the history of that person. Whether he has any criminal background, history of mental illness in the family and etc. At this stage, i don't think it would be easy to smuggle firearms across border given the tight security. Well, thats in Singapore. I'm not so sure about other nations but it shouldn't be much of a different. The world is facing a general threat of terrorism so security should be tight. Well, thats all :).

A lot of people are run down by automobiles, many are pushed out of windows, some are pushed off boats and scads of people are stabbed with knives, swords and pitch-forks Yet we do not prohibit the sale of such items.

The reason is that it is not the item that is wrong, it's the use that is made of the idem that is a crime.

Guns, like bows 'n arrows and spears, also can be used to satisfy hunger and can be used to protect against a threat to life and country. It is the "good use" of the item that is behind the government's permission to sell the item.

The U.S. Constitution was written by men who had endured a time when the general public became engaged in armed confrontation with politically alienated forces of their own government (The American Revolution). They therefore knew the innate power of small arms needed to be secured in the general public in order to help assure the authority of self-governance in the people. But they also knew national government was needed to protect the borders from foreign invasion of any kind. The right to bear arms became, therefore, one of the most assuring qualities of the present republic they formed for both these reasons. So, as long as the government is not quashing hordes of its own people, like they do in China, and no other people can invade the land due to the wide presence of small arms, this most basic surety of Western freedom is doing its job and everything else is of much lesser concern.

A large majority of weapons that are used to carry out these heinous crimes, are brought in illegally. the people who buy guns and legally register them are generally not the ones shooting people up. Better border control, and task forces to break up organized crime might help( as this is who often brings the guns in). There are legitimate reasons to own guns, hunting, protection, for the shooting range. I think even if we took away guns there is always other ways that these sick individuals will harm themselves and others, for example Timothy McVeigh.

Our constitution gives us the right to bear arms. We do not have the right to use those weapons illegally or to harm innocent persons. The men who wrote the constitution wrongly assumed that 21st century people would have the common sense and good judgement to use the weapons legally and carefully at all times. I still want the right to hunt and defend my family. The answer is not banning guns;one answer is making illegal use of them a mandatory sentence of so many years that no one will take the chance of spending their life behind bars.

American has the 2d optimal fee of gun violence interior the international and murders. Why does this severe fee of gun crime no longer ensue in different international places that permit weapons legally? As somebody spoke of weapons do no longer kill human beings yet they do make it plenty much less complicated for the murderer to realize this. If the comparable argument is accompanied then bombs do no longer kill human beings according to probability they could be offered in Wal-Mart besides. weapons do no longer make human beings safer yet greater volatile. in case you have been to be mugged at gun factor might the mugger truly look ahead to you to realize to your gun or shot you for attempting, i do no longer see many cops having problems with this. Having a gun will strengthen you probability of being killed because of the fact the mugger is apprehensive which you are going to have a gun and be set off satisfied for his very own protection. Why can human beings get semi computerized weapons, I comprehend shooting rifles? you won't be in a position to circulate looking with them, there may well be no longer something left of the deer. the sole reason human beings carry semi computerized weapons or hand weapons is to kill. greater desirable regulations could be located on those weapons and with a bit of luck next month there won’t be yet another shooting, sounds like those happens each and all of the time in recent times. 2d shape states that "A properly regulated militia, being mandatory to the protection of a loose State, the ideal of the folk to maintain and undergo hands, shall no longer be infringed." easily this implies that if the rustic is under probability and you're element of a militia you have the ideal to hands. no count what number techniques I study it am i able to work out that truthfully everyone has the ideal to weapons.

How nice it would be if something could be done. But a person who is set on hurting someone by shooting them will get a gun somehow. As you may realize a lot of the crimes committed by guns are from people using stolen guns. There are laws banning certain people from owning or possessing a gun, but still they find a way to obtain one.

Gov't allows the sale of guns because we have the Constitutional Right to keep and bear arms. That is the final guarantee of our freedom. Shootings are condemned because the media magnifies every incident where illegally posessed guns are used in the commission of a crime. Statistically, however, legally owned guns are used far more often to SAVE lives and property than to hurt anyone. Don't pay so much attention to Liberal lies designed to take away our freedom. Criminals will use whatever is at hand to kill, be it propane gas tanks or 747's.
